I have an EX-3 and edit native files exclusively. It works great. I think if you change to Prores it will take forever to render to that codec and it could be a LLLLOOOOONNNNNGGGGG time before you got down to editing if you had a large project.

Again, I edit in FCP using the EX easy setup and it works great. I then send to compressor to get it ready for DVD or web upload. I will sometimes export with Quicktime to make a Prores file if needed.

You must use Clipbrowser or XDCAM Transfer to copy your clips. Make sure you visit the Sony professional website to get the most recent versions.

Color is not that hard to learn if you use the Apple Pro Training series book “Color”. It is MUCH easier to learn than Motion thats for sure. It is definately worth learning.

  • I have noticed the same problem with Compressortranscoder not responding but the job goes through to completion. Using the latest Leopard OS (not snow leopard) and FCS 3 on a MacBook Pro.

I have had my EX-3 for over a year and had no problems of any kind. The lens has always worked as it should for me.

Another idea is to select all clips downstream of the gap and then make sure “snapping” is turned on an drag the clips over to close the gap. I know that is more steps but it should work. Also, are there any other clips on other tracks that overlap your gap? That can keep it from closing the gap too. Good luck!

If you highlight the gap first it should work.

I use the Lite Panel Micor Pro and love it. Cost was about $450. No problems so far and comes with indoor color gels.
