I have been using the Caldigit VR set up as a RAID 1 for over a year and had no problems. However I have also been using 2 LaCie 1 TB drives for almost two years and had no problems with them either. Maybe I have just been lucky with the LaCie’s. By the way you can get the Caldigit VR with two 1 TB drives for about $400. Check their web site at caldigit.com.

This means your computer is busy trying to do its job. Make sure you have closed all other programs running in the background and see if that helps.

I know everyone has a different opinion but I shoot everything in 1080i and let Compressor do the changes. I get a noticably sharper picture when I shoot 1080i rather than 720p even after Compressor changes it to 720p for the web. I would recommend trying a short sequence both ways and seeing for yourself how it works. I am using FCS 3.

I have experimented extensivley with all formats for the web and stand by the 1080i for shooting and then using Compressors Youtube preset for sending HD to the web. It downconverts it to 720p but still looks better than if it was shot in 720p.

I am not sure what the size will be but I have used the Youtube preset in compressor many times and it looks great. You can try tweaking the settings if you want to suit your taste.

Try dragging the 3-way color corrector filter onto the clip, double clicking the clip and then under the 3-way color corrector tab in the viewer drag the hightlight slider to the left.

I have mine set up with eSATA and run 3 to 4 video tracks from it on a 2008 MacBook Pro. I have not tried the other connections.

You can get the Caldigit VR with two 1 TB drives for 399.00 at their web site. I have this setup and it works great. I have it set up as a RAID 1 so it mirrors all data. Check caldigit.com and no I don’t work for them.

There is a simple answer to your question of how to find the clips once imported. In XDCAM Transfer click on the “file” (I think, I don’t have it open in front of me), dropdown menu and click on “preferences”. When that window opens there is a tab on the top right called “import”. Open it and choose your destination folder. Then import and they will be in that folder! Once you do it about twice it becomes very fast and will end you trouble of where the files go. Good luck, it gets easier!
