    What is JES?

Does not do what it says it’s supposed to do. No matter the menu settings. I’ve been through this every which way and I hear of others with the same problem. If someone says it can be done, I doubt they’ve done it and would only believe it to see it for myself.

Well, the answer is this deck does NOT downsample via ieee as it advertises. I’ve tested, tried every possible configuration, talked with a Panny tech and all to no avail.

I’ve also heard of others having the exact same problem with the 1200.

Worse, though, this thing barely functions with Media Composer doing straight DVCPRO 1080i via the ieee. It creates constant errors, constant freezes and you spend more time rebooting.

I never say this stuff lightly, but this thing is a piece of junk. Avoid at all cost, unless you have a Mojo w/ your Media Composer and you’re having an online facility doing the final full-res capture, so they can deal with the headaches.

Gotta give credit to Sony. I’ve done hundreds of hours with XDCAM without a hiccup.

  • And make sure you match-frame into the viewer. Just hit F in the TL.

  • Thanks

  • [epontius] “Couldn’t you just copy your project files without the media to a disc, then open the project on the MC?”

Hi, yes, that’s what I was planning to do. But I want to understand more about the proper workflow. Is it just a matter of creating a project in MC with the DNxHD 220 settings, then capturing?

And any idea about scaling SD sources?

    Great, thanks a lot Eric.

Do you have any idea what the file sizes are like when exporting a self-contained DNxHD movie? What I’ve been doing is transcoding, then exporting as a QuickTime Animation file. Of course, the size is pretty huge with Animation.

Nice dig at your forum users. ;O)

If you’re referring to Final Cut Pro users, I can give you about a million examples where this is hardly the case. FCP has become an amazing product through many, many threads like this that Apple was obviously paying attention to. I’ve been reading them since v.1.0, so I’ve got a pretty good idea.

    [Chris Poisson] “James,

You’ve answered your own question at least once in this thread, a gamma shift has to be a setup issue. Where exactly it’s happening for you I don’t know, but I have never had that problem with Compressor.”

Chris, I wasn’t asking a question. I was just answering an older (buried) thread where David discounted my claim, which has actually been well-discussed on this site. I was merely trying to add some useful information for anyone who might be interested, so this thread wouldn’t be a total write-off.
