Okay, I just read a bunch of threads I hunted out on the cow, related to this subject, but I want to make sure I’ve got it right.

I’m working on an Avid Xpress Pro workstation (5.2.4) and just captured some native HDV files. Now I need to send them over to a graphics person as a QuickTime file (I usually use Photo-JPEG Best for this, btw).

I’ve discovered I’m unable to send out a QT movie, either self-contained or reference. The only workflow I could find was to throw my clips into a sequence and transcode to DNxHD-TR 145, then export my clips.

Am I missing anything, or am I on the right track?

    Thanks a lot,

    James

Correct. You’ll need to transcode the sequence to DNxHD in order to create a QT reference or “same as source”. If your graphics guy doesn’t have the AVID codecs they can be downloaded for free from the Avid website and can be installed on mac/pc on systems that do not have Avid installed.

    Great, thanks a lot Eric.

Do you have any idea what the file sizes are like when exporting a self-contained DNxHD movie? What I’ve been doing is transcoding, then exporting as a QuickTime Animation file. Of course, the size is pretty huge with Animation.
