you can purchase elements like that, or you can create them yourself in Illustrator or Photoshop.
Most of those kinds of things are done in external programs, though you could make a solid and apply masks to make shapes, lines, etc.

go to http://www.videocopilot.net and watch the After Effects Basic Training tutorials. You’ll get up to speed quick, and be able to do lots of cool stuff pretty quickly.

it’s just a matter of animating the opacity of each character
you may be able to edit the preset to get what you want, or use an expression, but really, you can just animate each character’s opacity individually.

lots of little things, but my favorite is the previews. Select any file in the finder, hit the spacebar and you get a preview view. You can play this preview if it is a movie file, or audio, or just view almost any document without opening the program it belongs to.
I also like the coverflow view for looking through directories. I can see giant “thumbnails” of the files I’m working with, and quickly find what I need.
I would recommend the upgrade, but some don’t feel it’s worth it.

June 13, 2008 at 10:16 pm in reply to: wont render movie, just 0 seconds of 1 frame? help???you most likely are trying to render a comp that contains a MPG, H.264 file, HDV, etc. and it won’t work.
you need to take whatever footage that is in the comp and convert it to a format that After Effects can use to render out a file
Also, don’t “export” anything. Select your composition and hit ctrl-M or command-M, then set your render settings and hit render in the render queue.

right
Although Animation is still not a 32 bit codec, it gets closer for this purpose.
Anything else that I know of is 8 bit. If you can find another codec that ouputs files that are smaller, then you can render to that.
Once rendered, you can bring the movie file into After Effects or another program to convert it to a smaller sized file with a different codec, because the effect will have been written into the movie file.

there are a few programs that many people use for this kind of thing, Flash being a major one. After Effects can certainly do it, but if you’re doing an entire project of character animation, I would consider using something like Anime Studio. It’s not just for Anime type stuff, but it’s really good for 2D animation. It has a bones system, and content management tools that make managing all your assets easier. The Pro version adds features like 3D coordinates and 3D object support, and onion skinning.

one caveat – I haven’t actually used the program, I just know of it and it’s features, because I was researching it for another project. I may get it eventually.

ok, I get you…
it’s not easy, and I’m not sure of any quick way to get rid of the leaves if you don’t have a clean plate without the leaves, and if you did, you woudn’t have to get rid of them in the first place.
Maybe you should put the question in the regular After Effects forums, as there are more people who have more techniques and know of better tools than I do for this kind of thing.

you’ll have to render out using the Animation codec, then convert the file to something smaller if you need it to be smaller. You can’t get the effect rendering it to a file that only supports 8 bit color.
