I can get some text to enter, but how do I get it to exit? I click the clock next to position then move the text and time, but it just moves the inital effect.

go to http://www.videocopilot.net and watch the After Effects Basic Training tutorials. You’ll get up to speed quick, and be able to do lots of cool stuff pretty quickly.
