What is the best way to extrude text in AE CS3 so that it has 3D volume that can be viewed on a moving camera on X,Y,Z axis ??
do I have to go into the world of 3D applications to do this??

you’re better off doing this in a 3D app, or at the very least, Zaxwerks ProAnimator plugin, but there is a way to do it using the Shatter effect.
Look up the Creative Cow 3D logo tutorial on this site.
