probably other apps can do it too but a simple approach with C4D mograph i think might be two spline shapes, one for the type and on for the terrain map, mograph cloner clones and attaches the white spheres to the terrain shape then a spline effector moves all the spheres to a second spline shape for the type. camera move and what looks like a bit of post layering 2 versions of the mograph animation and then a dissolve to the white matte filled final white type.

not sure about the mechanics of it but seems to be a budding movement of people making “films” using the 3D cams, scenes and objects from games and even things like second life. google “machinima” or read here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Machinima.

as adam points out the icosahedron isn’t exactly your shape but if that shape would fly with the client maybe try putting a sphere set to icosahedron inside an atom array. set the atom array cylinder radius to the size of your lines and set the atom array sphere radius to the same size (so the small atom connector spheres don’t show). the big sphere’s (icosahedron) segment number will control the number of panels in the icosahedron shape.

haven’t been able to try it yet but found this method of baking mograph/dynamics to keyframes which might be helpful:

hey russ, i’ve been having the same problem with the mograph dynamics/rigid body tag renders either not matching positions of the playback or the cache versions being different or not actually playing back at all. mine are simple mograph dynamics falling type, hitting floor and bouncing to a repeatable configuration. wish someone had some help on this one. let me know if you figure something out.

if you look under Edit/Project Settings/MoDynamics attributes tab, you can change the time scale to 0, keyframe it to 1 to start gravity back up. (project settings on the mac is command D.)

others might take a different approach but i always work and render as square pixel in C4d, for instance 640×480 or 720×540 for ntsc, and then put into a ntsc comp and let after effects handle the PAR there.

after you import it into after effects just interpret your 30fps c4d render as 29.97, then put it into a 29.97 comp. interpret footage: select the render in the afx project window and use command F or right mouse klik to select interpet.
