  • exporting NTSC: 30 fps instead of 29.97??

Posted by Pau Perez on November 11, 2009 at 10:16 pm

    Hi,

I’m quite new to Cinema4D. I exported some renders to the preset NTSC DV, and it states in the render settings it is 29.97 fps. But the exported video is 30 fps? Am I doing something wrong??

    Thanks in advance,

    Pau

They are counted the same on playback.
This is because in the black and white times all the data fit at 30fps but when color came it no longer had enough room for all the meta data (Timecode). Then this became a problem with sync and stuff since you loose a little each second so they created what is called a drop frame. This does not include any actual pixels only meta data so the pixels go 30 but the meta goes a little faster to make up for it.

So when I make a composition out of this video in AE, and it states it’s 30 fps, whenever I export it to 30 fps it won’t matter and will be actually 29.97? Or should I create the AE composition in NTSC DV 29.97 fps and drop the video into it after creating it?

    Thanks!

after you import it into after effects just interpret your 30fps c4d render as 29.97, then put it into a 29.97 comp. interpret footage: select the render in the afx project window and use command F or right mouse klik to select interpet.

Thanks. I see there’s another issue with the pixel size (C4D exported video is 0.90:1 and AE’s NTSC DV is 0.91:1)… so I’ll interpret in AE following its NTSC DV standard for fps and pixel…

others might take a different approach but i always work and render as square pixel in C4d, for instance 640×480 or 720×540 for ntsc, and then put into a ntsc comp and let after effects handle the PAR there.
