This may not be very helpful to you but Cinema 4D has a great was to do this. If you have access to it, let me know and I’ll fill you in.

Excellant thoughts. Thank yo. I need to digest what you’ve said. I knew I needed to put each letter on its own layer and stagger the time each deparats from the starting pint on a path…after I read your ideas and Steve’s in expressions I’ll set to work on it. As he said in the expressions forum, I might actually get come sleep tonight after all. Thanks again very much, I appreciate it.

Philip,
Thanks very much for your excellant response. Since I wrote this I had thought through the first part of what you mentioned, to treat each letter distinctly and on its own path and to divide the two words into two animations, in effect, and bring them back together. I just had not quite thought it through as well as you have, and again I thank you. I’ll set to work on it now. Your analysis of the motion is right on the money,Frankly I’d rather sell my employer on a cleaner, less messy animation, bringing the two words together in a more elegant solution, but I’m “married” to this for better or worse, so rather than spend time on how I could make it look, I’ll do what’s asked of me.
Thanks again very much.

You should invest $25 for Lynda.com and use Larry Mitchells course in C4D, the best 25 you’ve spent in a while. Or try Cineversity from Maxon, which is very good too but more expensive, although they do have free sections including splines I believe. Good luck.

Jase, try re-doing permissions twice, per Larry Jordan the Zen Master of Final Cut don’t despair. Cheers

Hi, This happened to me this morning when I migrated AE7 to my new mini mac via a fire wire. I then went and made sure all Apple updates were current and then repaired permissions twice (one pass isn’t enough) and it loaded fine then. Good luck, it’s frustrating eh?

Lynda.com has, to my mind some of the best training available. They have AE training going back to 5.5 and much of that is worthwhile too. They have 2-3 courses about 7.0 and they are all great. Also try Total training, although it’s much more expensive, it’s very sound. The Myers books are terrific too but they have not covered 7.0. BTW if you buy AE 7 spend more and get the Professional version, it’s money very well spent. Cheers,

Cinema 4D has an export to AE option that is great and, personally, I prefer C4D because it is a full 3D application and with modules it has unlimited motion graphics potential. Cheers,

Try Larry Mitchell’s video series at Lynda.com, it’s very strong. Cinneversity by Maxon has some good parts as well.
Good luck,All the best
