    hello,

i was wondering if anyone could shed light on how i could animate a line, drawing on (masking) and have the camera follow the line. basically i’m trying to animate flight paths of a plane over a globe. i’m a newbie btw.

    Hi,

I assume you mean a spline line? Then simply duplicate this line and move it to your cam

To make the line actually draw, put the path spline inside a SweepNURBS object and animate the End Growth parameter, then use the technique described by Samir to get syncronous motion for the camera.

i guess i should have emphasized that i’m new to Cinema, let alone 3d software. i guess i was hoping for more of a step by step approach as i haven’t created a spline or anything yet. i’m sure this technique has been done a lot but i’ve tried it in other programs such as Lightwave without any luck. i was hoping it would be a bit more straight forward in Cinema. If someone could post a step by step process of a camera following a line(s) drawing on that would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks

Hi Rob. I don’t want to be rude in any way. But if you haven’t even made a spline (your line) in Cinema yet, I’m afraid -any- instructions for your complete animation will not help much.
    So.
Make sure how to make a Spline in Cinema.
Make sure how to use a SweepNURB, (and why, a spline is not rendered, you need the geometry the SweepNURB gives)
Make sure how to add a Camera.
And finaly, find out what the AlignToSpline Tag does.
These are the steps and objects you need for your animation.
    Use them as described above:)

    Cheers

You should invest $25 for Lynda.com and use Larry Mitchells course in C4D, the best 25 you’ve spent in a while. Or try Cineversity from Maxon, which is very good too but more expensive, although they do have free sections including splines I believe. Good luck.
