    Hello
Thanks in advance for any help in this matter. I’m a new hire and my new employers want me to re-create the attached logo animation. The company has changed names and the quick time file “morphs” from the old logo into the new, however strictly speak it’s not a morph. Please look at my link to the movie. (Copy and paste this into your browser: https://web.mac.com/ronlongdesign/iWeb/Motion%20Graphics%20reels/Movie.html ) It’s possible the original was done in another application other than AE, but that’s what I know and have. Each letter in the text apears to follow an oval path from left to right. I think they split the layer on the back side for the text and the new layer. It will make sense when you watch it. I opened my big mouth and said I could do it, before I thought it throuhg )morale here, keep your mouth shut rather than try to impress your new boss.) Thanks! I’ll be up all night on this one!

    Ron,

I would not do this with expressions.

just make sure every letter is on it’s own 3D layer, animate their 3D positions to curve towards the camera then away.
If you watch closely you’ll find that the new logo just glides in from the left with an opposite curve.

So keep it simple and thing of the two words as completely seperate animations.

Think of what the letters do as looking from the top view, and open a 2nd comp views to check the motion paths from the top.
Start with the motion path for the first letter, tweak that ’till you’re satisfied, then copy those keyframes, except the first one (the starting position) and paste them to the other layers (first give them their initial keyframe).
Tweak them a bit. And skew the keyframes in time. So they don’t all start at the same time.
The different letters don’t follow a perfect geometric cascade, you can tell by their clogging up the camera at a certain point.

now hide all teh layers of the first word and do the reverse for the next word.
Go frame by frame backwards and you can identify the letters of Amtrust: you’ll notice they do the mirror image.

When you’re content with that animation; slide the two into each other to achieve the highest possible ‘mayhem’ inbetween.

looks like the Motion Blur for the comp was crancked up too.

The word “bank” in brown just slides to the right. Then slides back in.

    Philip,
Thanks very much for your excellant response. Since I wrote this I had thought through the first part of what you mentioned, to treat each letter distinctly and on its own path and to divide the two words into two animations, in effect, and bring them back together. I just had not quite thought it through as well as you have, and again I thank you. I’ll set to work on it now. Your analysis of the motion is right on the money,

Frankly I’d rather sell my employer on a cleaner, less messy animation, bringing the two words together in a more elegant solution, but I’m “married” to this for better or worse, so rather than spend time on how I could make it look, I’ll do what’s asked of me.

    Thanks again very much.
