It depends on how complex/simple your shape is. I did mention earlier that you should look into merging your tracking/shape data in AE – this is a general rule of thumb for issues such as yours.

Rotobrush OR tracking the driftwood with mocha (and then exporting an instance of mochaShape to AE) should do the trick. Masking is actually another option but it’s almost destined to be a slower process relative to mocha. mocha shines as a tracker+rotoscoping tool.

You can merge projects using mocha Version 3. But you will still have issues copying splines from one layer onto another since mocha only allows for copying and pasting of keyframes onto a single layer.

If you need to merge KFs from two different layers, then do it in your compositing application.

You need to deduct 10% from your existing storage space to obtain the maximum allowable cache size for your system.

You should do all that you need to do in AE.

Drop the footage+text video into a comp and track the text – then apply the tracking data in a Null Layer. Type in your new text, place it at the appropriate time and position in the comp/timeline and Parent it to the Null.

Drop in the footage without the text and ensure that this footage matches with the ‘footage+text” video. Then switch off the visibility of the footage+text layer. You are now ready to render the completed/new version.

Your Search Area and Feature Area cannot be 1 pixel in size and certainly they can’t be of the same value – you’re way off here.

Track as per normal – with appropriate tracking options which include Search and Feature settings/size.

What you want should not dictate what you track. Rather, what you track should allow you to obtain what you want – sense make?

When you Apply the tracking data, you have the option to apply either X only, Y only OR X&Y tracking data. In your case, apply the X-only or X tracking data.

This should be easy for mocha. I suggest that you take (and post) a snapshot of your mocha canvas which includes your tracking spline. Also place the Planar Surface so that I can have an idea where the insert is supposed to be placed.

Setting mocha’s search parameters to 90% of pixels used, auto channel and with perspective should be close to optimal settings for this shot.

You should look at setting up the precomps such that they form an independent hierarchy with one precomp used as the first part of the hierarchy. If you’ve set this up appropriately, you can place all the comps and the input/source layer into a folder. You can then duplicate this folder, dive into the duplicate folder and replace the input/source layer with a new layer.

mocha’s Align Surface feature allows you to retain the original aspect ratio of your insert layer even after applying corner pin tracking data.
