If you set the Caps Lock key on, it’ll do the same thing – ie. not update the Comp Window. What I like about this is that should I want to check on the render, while a render is going on, I can simply switch of the Caps Lock to see a preview of what’s happening.
For overnight renders, it’s best to close all windows, as you’ve prescribed.
