You might have already known this, but this is simple trick to speed up your export render times. I had forgotten about it until someone reminded me.

After your bring up the render que to export your file, close your comp windows and timeline. This makes AE not have to update your comp window while it renders out your movie. Resulting in speeding up your export dramatically.

Or you can just export with CAPS LOCK on.

If you set the Caps Lock key on, it’ll do the same thing – ie. not update the Comp Window. What I like about this is that should I want to check on the render, while a render is going on, I can simply switch of the Caps Lock to see a preview of what’s happening.

For overnight renders, it’s best to close all windows, as you’ve prescribed.

Every once in a while I will hit the caps lock button on accident, while I’m working, but I didn’t know that it could be used for that purpose.

That’s a really good tip. I must admit i’d always assumed leaving the window open did no ‘harm’ because AE was rendering the frame anyway. I’ve got an onvernight render to do tonight. AE’s estimating 7 hours, i’ll be interested to see how long it takes now.

    Thanks guys
