I’ve used both – demo versions. Aurora actually seems to have more options upfront. Although Psunami can do most of what Aurora does with a bit of mechanics. I suggest that you download the demos and give them a tryout. Strangely, they both seem to be using the same render engine. It just looks very similar.

I suggest you take a look at using proxies. Serge has a great tutorial here at the COW. Just to add to his tutorial, proxies also work great when moving files from one system to another. All you need to do is to move the proxies and work with those on another system. When it comes time to render your final output, just switch to the system that has the high-rez files and all will be fine.

Sounds like you may have a precomped text layer. If that’s the case, then go to the precomp itself and enlarge the text layer so that it will never be greater than 100% in the comp with the camera. You can tell how large to go by juxtaposing both comps while scaling the text layer.

All text layers are now Continuously Rasterized by default. But Continuous Rasterization only happens in the precomp and not in the comp(s) that it is precomped in.

It could be a bad frame. See if the issue crops up outside of AE – like QT Player.

You need to have a better understanding of CODECs and compression and how these affect your workflow.

There are lots of CODECs out there. Each optimized for at least one purpose. There CODECs created for CD-ROM delivery, Web delivery, DVD delivery, editing systems, archival etc.

There are CODECs that compress in a variable manner, ie. more complex images receive more bytes with which to store the data – most CODECs perform variable compression. The DV CODEC compresses at a constant datarate.

A 1-minute DV encoded footage will always be the same size regardless of which application that outputs the DV file.

In your workflow, you should look for ways with which to minimize the number of times that you compress your footage. Each time you compress your footage, you will be losing quality, wating time, and lose more hair!

As for your workflow, I suggest importing (you can also copy and paste your premiere pro timeline into AE) the premiere pro project into AE. This precludes having to compress the video before it gets into AE.

Once in AE, you should render out to the CODEC that your editing system is working in. In your case, it’s DV. So, render out from AE to the DV CODEC.

Ensure that at no point is the speed curve at zero pixels per second. There should be constant movement where you want it to slow down. But this movement has to be slow, perhaps about 10-20 pixels per second. This approach works well for me.

The Animation CODEC can be both lossless or lossy, depending on the quality setting. Anything above 95% is generally accepted as being lossless.
