Post images of your tracking spline in mocha. Include a screencap of your search parameters. Post a video of your video. Post a screencap of your AE timeline and effects control panel. Include a video of the post-tracking (composite) in AE.

Classroom in a Book for AE CS6 is a horrible book! Video and even audio files are ridiculously short – as low as 2-3 seconds. The completed exercises look like crap on a stick!!! FWIW, it’s a tutorial-based book that lacks a lot of insight into the features. It’s meant to be used as a quick guide to AE.

I second Ted’s recommendation to incorporate workflow routines/techniques that cover AE and an NLE.

There are folks around *ahem* *ahem* that can design a course syllabus for your company – at a fee of course. 😉

No idea what the issue is but you can find the Prefs File via AE’s Preferences dialog window. In this window, at the bottom left, is a button that sends you to the OS and selects the Prefs file.

A static cube can be incredibly difficult to track if the search parameters are not set appropriately. For example, may all you need is to track transform, rotation and scale – ie leave out shear and perspective. Search parameters depend on object+camera movement AND NOT
the type of tracking data (transform or corner pin) you want from the tracking routine.

IOW, just because you want corner pin data, it doesn’t mean that you should track with shear or perspective. You can very well track transforms and then export corner pin data – just as you can track with perspective and export transform data.

My thoughts are that the CODEC you’re using has been wired in mocha to only work with specified resolutions. An image sequence should overcome such an issue.

I’m not 100% certain but AME doesn’t take advantage of GPU processing when a ray-tracing comp is rendered in AE.

Additionally, rendering out H264 via AME, from an AE comp will require AME to first render, internally, an uncompressed version of the comp and then using this file to render a H264 version. IOW, there is no direct route from AE to H264, via AME.

You should render out a high-quality movie from directly AE. Then use the resultant movie, in AME, to render to H264.

3D tracking is what you will require for these.

Either transform or Corner Pin tracking data will work.

As long as the insert layer or its precomp is the same size as the tracking/’final’ then you should be fine. If need be, you can scale the insert layer in its precomp to more accurately suit its intended aspect ratio. Also, mocha’s Align Surface retains the insert layer’s aspect ratio.

I’ve just realized that there is an issue with the script if the referenced value is at exactly 25. Currently, a value of 25, for the referenced property, will result in an opacity value of 0.

If that is not intended behavior, then add an = sign to either one of the two explicit conditionals in the script – something like this:

if (propVal >= 25) OR
(propVal > 20 && propVal <= 25)
