Mocha Pro – Imported footage dimensions

I’ve use Mocha for a few years now, but this is the first time i’m stumped on finding a solution for a problem.

I import my shot which is a 2560 x 1350 DNxHD .mov, fine so far. But then when it appears in the mocha tracking window, it displays a 1920 x 1080 cropped version of my footage. I have tried to manually change the dimensions to see the full image but it won’t allow me to?

Any suggestions? (in the meantime i’ll encode my shot as a different codec and see if that helps).

My thoughts are that the CODEC you’re using has been wired in mocha to only work with specified resolutions. An image sequence should overcome such an issue.

IIRC DNxHD only supports the codec setting you give it when exporting although you can enter some other values in resolution. The resolution options are 1280×720 and 1920×1080.

Hi Colin,

Are you on Windows or Mac? Does this movie open at the correct size in QuickTime Player 7? What version of the DNxHD codecs do you have installed?

One of our developers is working on a number of codec-related issues at the moment so if this is a bug in mocha I will raise it with him.

I do not know if we have tested 2K DNX files, so you “may” have to convert to image sequence.

The thing is is there even 2K DNxHD because at least in Adobeland the Quicktime codec is locked to the codec settings. You can only make what is available under the codec’s settings and those are 720i/p and 1080i/p in different framerates.

I too doubt that DNxHD works in non-HD formats, ie SD and ultraHD formats AND it’s well-known that Avid CODECs allows the user to select ‘strange’ resolutions for export/render even though the exported/rendered will be conformed to the CODEC’s supported resolutions.

Hi J-P

I’m on Windows 7 64bit Pro, the footage opens fine in QT 7.7.4, the footage is a downsized 4K Red shot to a 2560 x 1350 ffmbc DNxHD 185Mbit 25fps interlaced pal Mov container.
