I really like my GH4 and use it when traveling, hiking, and outside Video.
Even with a SpeedBooster it can not handle really poor low light.
I use my A7s for that at 6400 ISO but it requires a 4k recorder and 27-135 Cine lens for my work.If I had neither, I would get a JVC LS300 for just a little more than your budget.

I suggest looking at the Sony A7sII.
Many improvements over the A7s and you will not need an external recorder unless you want unlimited Video length. -

August 1, 2015 at 3:22 pm in reply to: Camcorder for $3000 (events, commercials, documentary)If you want an interchangeable lens CamCorder then save up for the JVC LS300. When at NAB I went first to the Panasonic Booth then spotted the camera I wanted across the isle.
If you want a really great CamCorder for under $3k buy the Panasonic X1000. With no lens or extra batteries to buy, it is a better value than the LS300. I only returned mine because of the extreme low light I shoot in.
Only the Sony A7s can shoot Video in the dark and make it look nearly like day, but I have $8k invested when including the 28-135 and 7Q+ recorder, etc.

If I were to travel. I would take my GH4.
One 128GB SD card + backup.
I would take the charger and two batteries but probably never use the second one.
I also would take my 12-35 and 35-100 lens.
I could get by with a miniature TriPod and shoot for 3 hours unattended
because the AF and Auto ISO are good enough.
All this would fit in my smallest bag.If I were to shoot in the dark or poor/low light, I would use my Sony A7s,
If more than 29 minutes I would take at least 4 in camera batteries + two battery grip or a large external one with plate and dummy battery.
One 128GB SD card + one back up.
I would also take a 4k recorder to DownRes to 1080P30 and record more than 29 minutes.
I would also need a sturdy TriPod and Video Head.
I could get by with one 28-135 Cine lens. -
I wonder if the Sony FE 28-135 would work on this camera?
It is truly wonderful on an A7s.
Maybe it could even be used with a SpeedBooster like my Nikkors?I have a complete array of Lumix lens but they are only MFT.
They probably don’t have a large enough image circle for complete utilization of the s35 Sensor and none of them are parfocal like the Rokinon Cine lens. -
I had an X1000 and really loved it.
Only reason I sent it back and got an A7s was that nearly all my shooting is in low light that exceeded it’s capability.I’ve been looking at the JVC LS300 and wonder if it can handle poorly lit situations? I got “Hands On” at NAB but could not decide based their lighting and the little LED for playback. I should have taken some of SD cards with me that I left in my hotel room.

Check your setting again on both camera and Odyssey.
I found it easy to mess mine up.
One thing it allowed was to DownRes my A7s from 4k at 30fps to 1080P60 which played back crazy because it should have been interpolated.
So, I changed it to 1080P30 for really great results.Another thing. Sometimes you need to set the Camera for Automatic output.

My Convergent Design 7Q+ has HDMI, SDI, and separate Audio inputs

Are you using AutoISO?
I thought my Auto White Balance was messed up, but when I changed to a preset ISO many of my problems went away. -
Well, what did I actually record with the Ninja II with the camera set for PAL, using AVCHD?
Using ProRes LT, I got a variable bit rate of 73.9 Mbps, 1080p25, 4:2:2 Progressive
MediaInfo does not tell me if that is 8 or 10 bit depth.Using ProRes HQ I got an option to record 1080i50
It gave me 165Mbps, 1080p25 and 4:2:2
I could also record at 1080p25 for the same output and still no 8 or 10 bit depth info.Using DNxHD at 220Mbps it actually recorded 186 Mbps with 8 bit depth and 4:2:2 Progressive 1080 at 25fps.
