Can you hookup the GH4 directly to a Ninja? Or do you have to hook the camera up to that add on bottom guy?

How about Sony A7s do you have to use Sony’s recorder or can you use Atomos Ninja?

I have a GH4, Shuttle II, and Ninja II
Once you have the camera set up properly, you can just plug in the HDMI cable.
If you are down-sampling 4k, it is important to use the highest quality cable.

The internal 1080P recording is so good that I am selling both of my recorders.
However, I may pick up a Shogun for 10 bit 4k.

Any chance you can confirm what Atomos is saying, that the GH4 is only outputting the 1080p25 10bit signal at 50i? I really need to do green screen work on a live broadcast (virtual set) and require 1080p25 or at even 1080p50 at 10bit.

There isnt any one commenting on this besides atomos as saying its only capable of 10bit 1080i50.

Can you check with your own recorder?

I have my Ninja 2 hooked up to the GH4
The GH4 is set to 59.94 Hz (NTSC) with DNxHD or ProRes Codec in the Ninja.
If the GH4 is set to record AVCHD internally, you can use
    1080P 23.98p the Sensor output is 23.98p
    1080i 59.94 the Ninja records 1080p29.97
1080P 59.94 the Ninja shows No Input

with the GH4 set to record MP4 internally, you can only record 720p59.94 with the Ninja

with the GH4 set to record MOV internally, you can only record 1080p23.98

With the Nija set to 50Hz (PAL) and using either Ninja codec
I can record 1080p25 using the camera set for AVCHD 1080i and Sensor output of 50p or with Sensor output set at 25p.
I get No Input with the camera set for 50P
Using camera set for MP4 the best I can record with the Ninja is 720p50
I get “No Input” for MOV

Changing to 4:2:2 10 bit while still using PAL,
I get “No Input” for MOV.
    MP4 will only record 720p50.
    AVCHD will only record 1080p25

Well, what did I actually record with the Ninja II with the camera set for PAL, using AVCHD?
Using ProRes LT, I got a variable bit rate of 73.9 Mbps, 1080p25, 4:2:2 Progressive
MediaInfo does not tell me if that is 8 or 10 bit depth.

Using ProRes HQ I got an option to record 1080i50
    It gave me 165Mbps, 1080p25 and 4:2:2
I could also record at 1080p25 for the same output and still no 8 or 10 bit depth info.

Using DNxHD at 220Mbps it actually recorded 186 Mbps with 8 bit depth and 4:2:2 Progressive 1080 at 25fps.
