  • Which camera for 3000 bucks

I’ve been using a canon XF 300 for a while now. It doesn’t belong to me. I’ve been fortunate to have it available through a cable access TV station.
I’m mainly interested in fiction. I’ve done several shorts in 16mm in the 1990s and a longer piece with the Canon not too long ago.
I’m thinking about owning a cam.

I have a budget of 3000 bucks for a cam. I have full frame lenses already.
    What would you suggest?
GH4 + speedboosters so I can use my lenses
    NX1 with adapters?
One of the black magic cam, and which one?

I’m tempted to get the Ursa Mini 4K, I don’t care about 4.6K. For me the Ursa is interesting because of its ability to shoot high quality ProRes, which is superior to 4:2: 0 for grading. I’ve been extremely impressed by footage from the Black Magic Cinema Cam 2.5K, even more than the 4K, but I’m wondering if it makes sense today to buy anything else than anything that shoots 4K.

    I appreciate any suggestion.
    Thanks

You might consider the GH4, with speedboosters and an Atomos Ninja Assassin for recording 10-bit 4:2:2 ProRes via HDMI.

Yes, the GH4 is a contender.

    Phillipe,

would love to talk about some options. I personally love all the blackmagic cameras. Super easy to use and great resolution. Give me a call.

I really like my GH4 and use it when traveling, hiking, and outside Video.
Even with a SpeedBooster it can not handle really poor low light.
I use my A7s for that at 6400 ISO but it requires a 4k recorder and 27-135 Cine lens for my work.

If I had neither, I would get a JVC LS300 for just a little more than your budget.

I think I’m going to wait and see that Ursa Mini. I personally don’t need 4.6K so I’ll check that 4K cam as soon as it’s out.
