I was having the same trouble a few weeks ago and wasn’t able to get Vegas to recognize the DV footage but in my case I found out that it wasn’t Vegas that was the problem but instead the settings inside my camera itself that had to be changed in order for Vegas to recognize the footage.

Sometimes I get a tear in the render and sometimes it’s because when Vegas is in the preview/auto mode it just isn’t noticeable that much then when I go back and check my actual event more closely, I’ll see a tear.

Just want to confirm what I’m hearing. Are you saying that Mercalli should be run with the preview at full/best to obtain the best results?

    Hi Steve,
I think it would be good for that. I’d love to give it a try myself as I need to explore the program more myself so email me a short wav file if you like. It would just have to be 30 seconds or so.

There was a webinar about the workings of the program that is very helpful at:

Don’t know what I would have done without the forum over the years. The projects I’m doing now just wouldn’t have been possible.
    Thanks to all.

I can’t open any project in Vegas12 that hasn’t been created in Vegas12 unless I go to windows explorer and right click on the Vegas12 icon and do a “open as vegas12” icon. If I try to open within Vegas12 it will crash even though the 12 icon is there.

12 seems very stable so maybe I’ll just uninstall my Vegas10. 11 never did work for me.

  • This may not be your problem but I recently couldn’t download any of my footage from my camera to my laptop. It drove me crazy and it ended up that the firewire port was bad EVEN THOUGH the firewire port DID recognize the camera. It was bizarre.
You’d think that the firewire would either work or not work but that was not the case with me. It worked in that it did see the camera but that was all.

I use a program by Sony called Spectral Layers. I was able to take the sound of chirping crickets and leave only voice on one of our programs.
If you’d like, you can email me a short audio file and I’ll see what I can do with it.

  • Unless I’m missing something, I think I would make the two “O” shapes in photoshop and then save them as a png file. That way the center portion can be transparent and then just use the pan/crop tool on the sync cursor to enlarge it over time.

    Hi Steve,
I picked up the Pixelan plugin for transitions and you are right. That interface is one of the nicest I’ve ever seen. Thanks for mentioning the new plugin.
