I have seen similar posts but not matching exactly my problem. I am getting issues of “tearing” or garbled previews and also renders. It is related to RAM settings – if I set RAM playback to 0 the problem goes away, but it is tough to edit as the playback is very poor. I am rendering to avi, which has traditionally been Vegas’ strong suit – maybe that has changed.

I am using the latest build of Vegas, I have and quad core machine with an NVIDIA Quadro FX 4600, 2 RAID arrays – one for video, one to render to. and 16 gig of RAM.

I did not have any issues with Vegas up to version 9. Since then I have been having issues of various kinds, but this is keeping me from producing product.

Both AE 6 and Premier 6 run fine on my system, but when it works Vegas is faster to edit on, so I would rather stick with it.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

Sometimes I get a tear in the render and sometimes it’s because when Vegas is in the preview/auto mode it just isn’t noticeable that much then when I go back and check my actual event more closely, I’ll see a tear.

Would this be an example of a bad render you have experienced? If so, I have the same problem, and have yet to find a solution. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYU1hHRbKbs at 9:08 and numerous spots after it. It seems to happen a lot when slow motion occurs. Please help?

No – it is nothing in the originals – I have drop-outs and “garbled” frames. They go away both on preview and on renders when I set the preview RAM to 0

Did you try with the GPU turned off? I was able to render using the GPU for a previous project and on my last one, it kept failing with an estimated render time of about 1hr and 20min. I switched off the GPU and it rendered the file just fine in about 45min. I run a GPU utilization systray icon and that tells me when the GPU is being utilized and I have seen times when Vegas starts to use it, but then it drops to zero. Some of the plugins use GPU independent of VEGAS, so I believe a lot of the GPU related issues are attributed to contention between multiple things trying to use it at the same time and not leaving them in a nice initialized state.
