try exporting a .tif with an alpha channel or .png with an alpha channel. Bring one of those into FCP and see how that works.

I’d like to chime in if you don’t mind.
I haven’t been a big fan of DSLR cameras either – not because of their image, but because of how small they are and the lack of common connections we’re all used to.
But I saw at NAB that Sony AND Panasonic both have cameras come out with really big sensors. I believe the Sony has a 35mm and the Panasonic has a 4/3″ chip. THOSE I’m more interested in because they do have features we’re used to. And apparently the image sensors are optimized for video, but i don’t really know what that means exactly, haha. I’m just taking their word for it.
I think the DSLR cameras were big step in the direction of video cameras using larger sensors.
And to get a little off topic: as much as I like Panasonic, I don’t understand why their new HPX370 STILL uses 1/3″ sensors, The EX3 and EX1 have half in sensors….what’s the hold up?!

Hmm….not sure what software you’re using…
I’d shoot 24p if that’s what you really want. Final Cut Pro will add the proper pull-down to convert to 30fps if all your footage in a 29.97 timeline is 23.976.

I’ve definitely export 4 channels of audio from Compressor before.
When you’re in Compressor, go to the Encoder Pane in the Inspector window and change the Audio drop down menu from “Enabled” to “Pass Through.”

AFTER you lay the dip to color dissolve in the timeline, double click it to load it in the view and then change it to white. If that still doesn’t work, use a white color solid on the track above your video and keyframe the opacity.
For those white flashes in the link you provided, again i’d just use a white Color Solid in the track above my video and mess with the opacity if needed

Use: XDCam EX 1080p24As far as the VBR vs CBR thing…I actually didn’t know XDCam did both. Is there an setting that you are able to choose in the camera when you’re shooting? I’d go with whatever your camera recorded. If you don’t know what your camera recorded, I would ASSUME VBR is better because I know ProRes is a VBR codec. But that’s just an assumption, I’m not positive.
For ProRes, all you need is ProRes422, HQ is overkill.

I would bring your DVCPro HD sequence into Compressor and drop the HDV1080i60 setting on it, then export.
Being the new file back into a new sequence into FCP. When you drop it into the new sequence, FCP will ask you if you want to sequence to match your source video’s settings…. obviously in this case, Yes.
You should be able to export to tape then.
