  • Compressor limited to two channels of Audio??

Posted by Tim Maloney on April 17, 2010 at 8:23 am

    Hello All,

I’ve got four active audio tracks in a FCP timeline and whatever I do in compressor it reduces the four into two tracks.

Is this normal or a known limitation??

    Any solutions??

I think it has to do with your timeline settings. By default fcp will make a stereo mix of the audio in the timeline, but you can alter this in the timeline settings (command-0). Try discrete channels for example.

Good luck and please let me know if it worked, im curious…

I’ve definitely export 4 channels of audio from Compressor before.

When you’re in Compressor, go to the Encoder Pane in the Inspector window and change the Audio drop down menu from “Enabled” to “Pass Through.”

    Thanks guys,

So I’ll check that the default for the audio in FCP is un checked and set to discrete to avoid the stereo mixdown. I’ll also check the settings in compressor to pass through and report back.

    Thanks

As Rob mentions, pass-through setting on Compressor will work. It’s just telling compressor to copy whatever audio is there — 2 tracks, 4 tracks, whatever — (versus converting it something else).

that does not work when i send to compressor from FCP timeline and pass through audio in compressor is still combines channels 3 and 4 to 1 and 2 but if i just hit command e on fcp and export it works perfectly what is wrong?
