I thought PP CC 2015 required a later version of the OS. Not so?

I’m dealing with 16mm release prints on Kodak stock from the early 70’s which have drastically color-shifted to pink/magenta. Haven’t examined the reversal original yet.
Film of that era can have shrunk a little and become brittle and may require special handling. I’ve read some scanners are easier on this material than others.

When you find a Mac . . . I found I had to export XML for a 40 minute movie in 2 sections. XML imported the first half of the file into PP and the second half was garbage.

    Hi Ashley,
Just curious, what is your intention in nesting audio tracks?
Are you nesting sequential tracks or simultaneous tracks?
I’m trying to edit true stereo tracks that were imported as dual mono and wonder if this could help.
    Thanks,
    Robert

  • Thanks for the helpful information, Tom.
BTW I clicked on your source’s link and saw that he is offering a 17″ MBP.
I love this model but my Apple repair service in NYNY, Techserve, tells me Apple is not making parts for this anymore so if something on the motherboard breaks it’s not fixable.

October 26, 2015 at 9:03 pm in reply to: Dual Mono Audio

    Hi John,
This is not about your question but since you are used to working in dual mono maybe you can help with mine.

For no good reason, I have a sequence with 100+ clips recorded in stereo that were all brought in as dual mono tracks.
It seems not possible to combine these tracks into stereo now that they’re already edited in the timeline.
But I want to edit them with:
    overlapping edits
    cross dissolves
    level changes
    some equalization and effects

Are there streamlined ways of doing these?
Or do I have to perform each operation on one of the dual mono tracks and then mimic or paste an effect on the other?

Prepared to work in either PPro (using 7.2.2) or Audition.

    Thanks for any help.
    Robert

September 29, 2015 at 1:29 am in reply to: Converting Entire Edit (Sequences & Clips) to ProRes

    An experiment resulted in this:
Nesting combined two video tracks into one but did not combine audio tracks.
For another single clip, nesting did not combine the two linked audio mono tracks into one.
Nesting seems to be about video/picture only.

Now experimenting with “Multiple stereo assignments for tracks to multichannel masters” to see if I can use this to combine two linked mono tracks to a single stereo track.

September 28, 2015 at 5:52 pm in reply to: Dual Shotgun Mics for Recording Actor’s Performances

In agreement with others, I wouldn’t think of shotguns as a source for stereo, though I understand you’re recording more than one actor on a stage, which typically results in a big boomey echoey sound.
The important thing is not the stereo but the quality.
Shot guns tend to have a thinner sound that requires a lot of experience boom handling. Not an entirely crazy idea, though. Mics in frames could be an issue if you want to have any wide angles.
I would think about lavalier mics on each actor with wireless transmission, though intensive physical action could render lavaliers problematic.
A lot depends on how much physical action there is and whether actors cross big spaces or work in defined areas.
Best way to think about this is not for a single one-fits-all solution, but how to record best sound for each beat of the play. This might suggest several different microphone set-ups. Can some cardioid mics be planted in the set?
