Thank you, Alex, I finally put together the association between multiple video or audio “tracks” and multiple “layers.” I’m guessing that if a timeline has 3 video tracks and 6 audio tracks those are considered layers and they are flattened by nesting into 1 video track and one audio track? Not sure if this is true about the audio…is that flattened or combined down to 1 track?
I was a little confused because I had PP telling me I had to “nest” a single video clip before applying a motion stabilization effect. Seemed to work that way. Perhaps “render and replace” would remove the stabilization.
    Much appreciate your help.

I don’t really understand the Adobe support text on “render and replace” or what it’s for. Does nesting combine clips as “layers?”Does “flattening” mean converting a nest into a clip “without layers?”
    Thanks,

  • I’ve been working with Premiere CC on and off for a couple years but the bugginess and instability are major features. Adobe constantly updates the software to add new features and new bugs. They do fix some old ones.

I keep wondering if I should have jumped to Avid. But I’m in too deep with a legacy project now, working with PP CC “2013”
The multiple track-based concept of PP is much closer to FCP7 than what I understand of X. That’s what attracted me.
PP works very differently from FCP in file handling in order to work with multiple camera formats.
Some pros I know transcode everything to ProRes for simplicity even though PP doesn’t require that.
    Good luck.

    Jon and all,
I would like to do the same thing but I have a fine cut sequence with 100+ clips in it.
Is there a way to replace all the dual mono audio tracks in the sequence with modified tracks from the bin?
Can I send the dual monos to submixes . . . and still edit length and transitions?
Can I send tracks including submixes to Audition for equalizing, etc?
I’m not turning up any info about this after extensive research.
    Thanks,
    Robert

Yes, viewing tutorials can seem endless, especially since they don’t have indexes. There are some good ones at lynda.com and larryjordan.biz if you’re willing to pay. These have tables of contents. Larry Jordan explains things like wrappers in some of his articles.

  • Look into Adobe Audition, the sister audio program to Adobe Premiere Pro, which imports video with audio via firewire.

I too had issues exporting an FCP7 project to PR CC through XML. At a certain point began to see wildly anomalous and random clips in the imported sequence . . . black, barred, duplicate shots.
This sequence was about 40 minutes long with mostly straight cuts.
The workaround I found was to break the sequence into two parts and import the second half as a separate xml, then marry them in PP CC.

Like many things with PP CC, this may take some experimentation, but try exporting shorter segments.

“Moving to Adobe Premiere Pro” on FB is a good one.

Hi Dustin, I totally don’t know . . . have you tried? Wish I could find a good reference manual for AU. The only thing out there seems to be the expensive “Classroom” book. I find I need to experiment a lot to learn what these programs will do.
Audition seems more nuanced than PP. I’m also interested in ways to being working on sound in Audition while editing and correcting in PP. Seems that AU is based on the film model: lock the picture, then do the audio. The big limitation seems to be that in AU your only export option is to mono, stereo, or 5.1. I’d love to be able to export ALL the tracks back to PP to keep working. Maybe this is possible, maybe not.
