This is an interesting experiment. I for one don’t find myself rooting for Apple on this one. They’re fixing something that wasn’t broke.

I may check that out. I do know how to make new partitions but maybe not how to add a new partition to an existing one. In any case I have it set up with bootcamp on my system drive and think I won’t mess with that. But I really don’t see much point in playing with Lion right now anyway.

I’ve seen this too. I haven’t sorted out when it happens but have had a simple 2 KF animation and come back to find a new KF usually put on the first frame of the clip where there was not one before.

Most of us probably have a bunch of old SATA drives hanging around and on a Mac Pro at least it’s easy to swap out the drive, so I might install it on a separate drive and check it out like that. But yeah there’s no way I’ll put it on my main system right now.

A couple of weeks ago I bought anew GTX 285 Mac card of ebay for about $380. Great card and works in Bootcamp Win7 64 too. And from what I’ve read it is comparable to some of the Quadro cards in performance but a lot cheaper. And Cuda is the way to go for PPro. I’ll be selling my ATI 5870.

That’s actually one of the cooler things about the old FCP. It keeps everything up to where you left off where many programs work on a clip by clip basis and if a clip isn’t totally finished, it throws what it’s done on that clip away.

That reminded me of how sick I am of the FCP Wait and See game. I’ve been playing that for a while now. I think Apple and their recent success has hypnotized a lot of people – probably myself included – and many of us stood in line to get whatever new thing they were coming out with. I for one have snapped out of it. FCP7 is the EOL of FCP for me, for now at least unless they really blow me away with something, and I seriously doubt that at his point.

I use Dropsend too. You can upload pretty big files, I even uploaded animations for use in an edit on the other side of the country. Only $15 or $20 a month and you send a link to the file in an email and they don’t have to logon and the receiver does not have access to what other stuff you may have uploaded.

From what I’m seeing I think actually this is a good time for NLE products in general. From what I’ve seen in PPro they are approaching the level of quality and speed of linear bays. Fewer and fewer things need to be rendered and the quality is just like that $300,000 switcher and $200,000 DVE I used to use. Avid is looking very interesting too. Maybe X does evolve into something good I really can’t tell what Apple is thinking but I think the entire group of products has bumped up a notch and finally starting to take advantage of the capabilities of the hardware. Competition is a good thing. I wonder how much OT the guys at Adobe, Avid and Apple are pulling these days?

And on top of that it’s more money. Automatic Duck costs more than FCPX does by itself! The third party thing is lame. Yeah they have to do some stuff like video cards etc. but this is one of the main reasons people were getting very annoyed with Avid and Pro Tools for example. You had to keep spending more money to do basic stuff when another program included the same functions for free.
At this point there is no way FCX with Motion, and Compressor competes with CS 5.5. If I had to pick one or the other it would be an absolute no brainer.
