Export a reference file from compressor
setup a compression preset. You can add burned-in timecode (embedded)
Send them the file.

why don’t you just assign it to one of the unused keys on the keyboard, or replace one of those that you don’t use anyway? There are a couple of open ones — go look in keyboard layouts. There are some 850 key commands. I certainly don’t remember or use one or two of them. 😉

and you tried linking the two clips to each other first?
Just curious. In the past on various systems one was able to link all sorts of unrelated code. That’s how we’d sync double system sound and multiple cameras/tapes.Non-linear: all the time and nothing but.

Discreet edit* a windows NT4 only system uses proprietary AVI files on a Targa 2000 card through v6. them v6.5 used a Targa 3000 (yes? It’s been a while). So no, FCP won’t work with the media, (though you could read the media on some faked out systems). Anyway, FCP will read the cmx edls without a problem, but you won’t get any of that fancy stuff like multilayer video, or audio beyond 4 tracks. Actually for this kind of work I preferred GVG edls, there were fewer restrictions.

no, you have it right. It’s just a matter of shifting it every little while. You’re seeing drift. It’s not that the whole track is 10f out of sync, the sync varies over time. Hop forward 1 min and adjust the audio 2 f. Not a big deal.
If you can actually “hear” the “bad” audio: one big trick is to put one source on one track and the other source on another. If they’re in sync there’s no echo out of sync there’s an echo. So you bump the one track until there is no echo. That amount is your offset. CMX would let us do this live on tape sources. Could do it in a couple seconds (curse you Spock!). It’s just like tuning a guitar and listening to the harmonics between the two strings. Adjust until the beat goes away.Good luck
