    Also,

on some clips when I go through the batch capture window I get the message saying that some clips in the current batch have the same filename, and what do I want to do. This even happens if I’m trying to capture a single clip however if I give it an alternative name (by adding an a at the end of the filename) it then wants to digitize the clip twice – WHAT? So far I’ve just aborted and moved on to a different tape.

No, although when I reset the password I set my user account (which is an admin account) to ‘no password’ and it allowed me to do the same for the administrator. Now when the login screen comes up it reads my account and ‘other’. The ‘other’ account I have no idea as to the username.

    Hi,

thanks, I do have another boot partition which I can get into OK (but it’s 10.3.6). I’ve repaired the disk using disk utility and diskwarrior, repaired permissions too. Zapped PRAM, tried safe boot. I think I’ve thrown away the login keychain as well. At the moment no go. 🙁

    Hi David,

what kind of deck do you have? Might be better to capture analogue audio at 48k if you have the option.

Thing is there is no display – so I can’t see to do that. I’ve replaced the crd with an X800 today which is working well – but it’d be great to get to the bottom of the problem, clearly the old card works – it just needs the CW there as well????

It appears it’s the radeon 9600pro that can’t operate without the CW card in the machine. Took another 9600 from my other G5 and installed it – worked fine (with no CW). So any idea how the 1st card could become ‘addicted’ to the cinewave? and is there a way to reset it?

    Thanks

That’s really rubbish on Apple’s part – I know storage is cheap but a huge amount of people still use an offline/online workflow, not least if they’re working on long form projects.

Not that people should be expected to work around a problem which really shouldn’t be there but I wonder whether exporting the (collapsed) sequence to XML and importing it into a new project would cure the capture issue?

Shane, that’s exactly what I’d like to do but how? I don’t see a function anywhere in the button list which is ‘go forward/backward x frames’

If you know how to do it please tell!!

    Thanks

thanks for the thoughts but I know all that stuff. What’s really nice with the AVID is that it’s a single key press – hold it down and it shuttles forward at a really useful speed or you can ‘dab’ forwards or backwards with individual presses. And yes I know that multiple presses of l or j will shuttle (as they do on AVID) but the response isn’t the same.
