I used the Camera Tracker and took a reference from one of the tracking points in the wing’s shadow. I was able to move the “logo” into position over the wing then mask out the edge as the cabin moves into frame.

Neither H.264 or AVC intra contain real whole frames. After Effects must reconstitute the frames from these files before it can work with them. This is why working with transcoded ProRes files is faster.
Premiere Pro uses the Mercury playback engine which deals these formats differently, it can use GPU acceleration, essentially transcoding the files on-the-fly. As of the current release, After Effects does not use Mercury Playback.

In CS6, if you are referring to RAM preview and you have an extended keyboard, the shortcut is the 0 key. If you are using a laptop or a keyboard without the numeric keypad, the shortcut is Control+0 (on a Mac).

This is an Illustrator issue. It has some other method of storing path data for traced objects, symbols etc.

Prior to expanding the path the traced object is seen as a single item. Expand generates paths from it.

Have you tried animating the mask shape?
The shot doesn’t look to difficult to rotoscope in After Effects.

I just tried the same thing. Traced a Photoshop image in Illustrator, clicked the Expand button to generate paths from the trace. Viewed the wireframe and cleaned up the stray bits in Illustrator. Imported to After Effects, converted to shape layer with no problem.

Do you have a camera in the Composition? Are you certain you are viewing the Comp from the Active Camera View?
The above is normal behaviour. Do you want a view with no perspective?
