In addition to more RAM, if you’re using CS6 you could add an SSD to serve as a Disk Cache. From my perspective, the Global Performance Cache and Persistent Disk Cache were the killer features in the CS6 release.

What happens when you right-click on one of these nested comp layers and select “Reveal Layer Source in Project”, does it reveal the correct composition?

May 22, 2013 at 4:33 am in reply to: Changing the off set of a layer position in a scriptI’m not seeing anything obvious here. Initially I thought this was an expression but now see you have a script reading an external text file and generating new layers.
You may have better luck posting your question on the Expressions forum, Dan Ebberts, a scripting master replies to many posts there.

It would be helpful to see the entire expression.

Just so I’m clear, are these layers being replaced with the same sort of footage? Are they pre-comps, are any Proxies in use?
Have you tried clearing the caches and resetting the preferences?

[Erik Thurman] “The replacement happens (the new name updates) but the new colors and whatnot don’t update”
Are there effects applied to the layers that change the color?

What confuses me is the divide by zero error when there is no division operator in the expression. Is this the entire script or just the line identified in the error message?

Is something preventing you from animation the position of these object independently?

May 20, 2013 at 4:58 pm in reply to: How do i add a seperate camera and null to a seperate layerIn After Effects cameras are layers and each time you add a camera it becomes the Active camera at the point it appears in the timeline.
The topmost camera layer is what is rendered, so if you have more than one camera at the same time, only the top one will render.
I’m trying to visualize what you are hoping to achieve when you say “zoom them separately” – do you literally mean zoom as in moving the camera on the Z axis towards the object, or are you moving the objects on the X axis? Is the null controlling the camera or the object?

“I stand corrected.
