If MC5, check to see that the RT tool does not have an EQ insert turned on for that channel(s)?

More info. would be helpful, but I can tell you a few things to look for. Have you tried variious players and computers to playback your DVD? What exactly do they say it does – usually there is a message like “This disc not recognized”. Have they tried it in a computer? Not that they want to but you need to find out as much about the disc as possible.

Well, I generally don’t have any problems and when I do, I usually first blame myself, although software bugs do happen, and this is not a full spec authoring software but it does everything I need and use. I AM on CS4, WinXP Pro SP3, 3GB RAM, 3Ghz processors, Nvidia card etc.I use only DVD-R, only burn at x4, never exceed 8mbps, usually aiming for 6.5 or 7mbps. I export QT Ref. files with WAV audio and let Encore do all my video transcoding and in every timeline I replace the .mov audio track with the .wav audio and tell Encore not to transcode the audio as it is DVD spec. I only use Dolby AC3 when I need to keep bitrate up on longer videos. It may not be an issue now, but years ago the audio volume was erratic on some computers when using AC3 – .wav solved that for me. I’m not sure what else to offer.

I use “AVS4You” software, AVS Video Converter 6 and render out QT files. Lifetime updates regarding all codecs but it is tied per license to the one computer (motherboard).

I can only tell you what works for me. I dump each individual P2 card into individual folders on a hard drive. I have had 5 cards with media spanning almost all of them. The folders were named simply “Card 1”, “Card 2” etc. I do not “AMA” P2 clips – rather I turn AMA linking off and import “P2 Clips to Bin” if I want to edit immediately & directly from that hard drive.
I then create a bin with the same name to keep things simple for my simple brain. When I import card 1 contents into bin 1, the last clip will show in the bin but only have half the media. When i import card 2 into bin 2, then all my media shows up – it has succesfully spanned the cards and I have everything.
When copying, copy the entire contents of the card “as is” to the folder – then within Avid, link to the contents folder for each card. This may not be the right way or the most efficient but it works for me. I do not have a 5 bay P2 multicard reader. I have in a pinch worked straight from the cards in the camera, in the field but that limits me to 2 cards.

I am a bit confused. I believe Avid uses non-square pixels,(4×3) 720×486 or for a DV codec 720×480. When you export from Avid, you have options to export in pixel ratios and another setting to set the “display” – whether i am exporting 4×3 or 16×9 AND I am exporting for Encore, I export native dimensions and I generally don’t care what the “display” setting is. I export a QT Ref. and inside of Encore, I do nothing if it is 4×3, but if it is 16×9, I right click (PC) the asset and tell it to interpret footage as WS. I then have a custom setting to encode as WS and the DVD should playback fine – when you adjust the “interpret footage as”, the monitor window should show the timeline for that asset in the correct aspect ratio. Maybe this will help … as I said, I am a bit confused as to what you are asking.

Not off the top of my head, make sure you are not Zooming in farther than the file resolution would allow (the file you are pointing to needs to be larger than your project settings). After each change in the effect, you must render again (rendering creates the new media). I sometimes have flaky issues if the meory usage (indicated in your project window) climbs too high, but the app usually will say “not enough memory”. I work on PC, not sure if there are irregularities related specifically to MAC. Sometimes rebooting the app solves a lot of issues for me.

Also, what is the resolution of the file you are referencing?

just a couple of thoughts … after you set the Avid HQ, did you render? also, is the monitor icon on timeline all green?
