Hi Julie,
The 1 frame of audio is just a “place holder” for the end of the sequence. After it is at the end of the sequence, go to the front of that one frame and mark In pt., go to the hamburger menu in the source monitor and “Load Filler” (this is Black), mark in then +429, enter and mark out (your duration should be 5:00) and insert that into sequence. If exporting to a file, mark the sequence in and out where you want (the out pt of the seq. would be 5 sec. after program hits black) when you go to file export, make sure the box is checked to use or enable marks. This is not very detailed (no exact instructions here) but should get you on your way.

I add one frame of any audio & adjust volume to nothing(infinity), and add as much black as you want using filler or trim. This way there is no video to be seen nor audio to be heard. You can add more than 5 seconds and place a mark out at exactly 5 sec. when/if exporting.

January 13, 2011 at 4:38 pm in reply to: HD Map Animation in AVID – Largest file size possible?Yes, better done in AE. You can’t get around the issue when importing, the Pan & Zoom effect accesses or points to the original file and allows moves to be performed and settings must be changed and rendered hi-rez before exporting or doing a digital cut.

Sounds like user settings/keyboard mapping and workspace/toolset configuration issues.

Creat a complete video mixdown. Put the mixdown on a top video track. Add Timewarp effect. Leave at 100%. Change drop down option to “fliudmotion”. Change output to “Progressive”. Render then export.

If your photoshop menu is layered and you want the upper most button (visually) to be button “1” then that should be the bottom layer set in PS – Encore by default starts button numbers from the bottom up – this may save you time in renumbering the buttons themselves. To manually route buttons you must deselect (it is checked or selected by default) the “automatically route buttons” selection – sorry, I forgot exactly where this is …. when the menu is selected it may be in the properties window. Then simply click and drag one of the navigational arrows and release it when over the position you want it routed to.

Wish i could help you – I don’t work commercially so I don’t consider my self a “pro” – I guess it depends on experience and budget. A real project with a real budget would probably include a line item for graphics artist which could deliver files. As an Avid editor, you can use AE, Plug-in(s) like Boris, Marquee – I would say each editor has his/her own preferences. No rules, just find something you like that works for you and your workflow … whatever gets the job done. Others on here (the pros) can offer you other alternatives or advice.

You create the movement within marquee and it renders it as a file – any change needed must be done again in Marquee and re-rendered.

What version Encore? Are you using playlist(s)? Double check all links and especially end actions for chapters or playlists.
