    Hi

The Avid pan and zoom effect is not working properly on my Mac MC avid 4.0.5. I have tried on two different systems and get the same result (iMac then Mac pro). The picture, once imported through P&Z looks very low quality. When I zoom in its even worse. I have tried every combination of settings with no results. Avid HQ is actually worse than just the normal Avid setting. I have tried different sizes of photos. Please help its driving me mad!

    Thanks
    Mark

just a couple of thoughts … after you set the Avid HQ, did you render? also, is the monitor icon on timeline all green?

Also, what is the resolution of the file you are referencing?

Wow thats a quick reply, thanks. Ok just checked everything and rendered it to a different drive and amazingly its now working! However only on Ultra hi Quality which is odd as I’ve never had to use that before on PC Avids. Thanks for your help though. Maybe I just hadn’t tried that particular combination of settings.

Ah hang on. It only works if there are no moves on it. I just put a slight zoom in on and now the render doesn’t work. The quality stays rubbish? Any thoughts?

Not off the top of my head, make sure you are not Zooming in farther than the file resolution would allow (the file you are pointing to needs to be larger than your project settings). After each change in the effect, you must render again (rendering creates the new media). I sometimes have flaky issues if the meory usage (indicated in your project window) climbs too high, but the app usually will say “not enough memory”. I work on PC, not sure if there are irregularities related specifically to MAC. Sometimes rebooting the app solves a lot of issues for me.

Thanks Ricky, I seem to have solved it for now. I have gone back to Video res which didn’t work before but does now and restarting the app also helped like you say. Thanks again for the quick reply and for stopping me throwing the mac out the window! PC’s, all is forgiven!

Pan and zoom has some quirks. You must render it in order to actually see the move in the desired quality.

Also, if you change anything after the render it will stay as low-res rubbish, even after re-rendering. You have to remove the plug in and re-apply. It’s a pain but that’s just what it does.
