March 14, 2016 at 11:43 am in reply to: What are the best export settings and technique PERIOD for Youtube and Vimeo out of AVIDWe use Same As Source Export but upload that directly to YouTube which accepts DNxHD codec. It can be a lengthy upload – typically our videos are 5 minutes or less. YouTube may not have the 2 GB limit anymore – I do not know for sure as I am not the person who uploads any longer. If I were uploading ling form then I would run SAS from Avid through Sorenson to highest acceptable bitrate that I feel I could get away with, probably H.264 codec. This is our workflow, not claiming it is the best and certainly not the only way.

check to make sure sequences have been updated/refreshed, especially if they were edited with AMA clips. Make sure the audio was transcoded as well. A helpful tool is clip color in timeline setting which allows you to see linked clip media when turned on.

you di correctly – 1080p 25fps is Avid 1080i/50 – progressive frames interlaced is doubled, so 25fps progressive = 1080″p” = 1080p/25. 25fps interlaced = 1080″i” = 1080i/50

February 11, 2016 at 8:28 pm in reply to: Can you create a menu button to toggle Close Captions on/offClosed Captions are a function of the display (TV set). If you duplicate the movie, and thereby duplicating the space required on the DVD, add that timeline without adding the caption file and have a separate button for each, then yes, the button will allow or not allow captions.
Subtitles can be turned on/off with a menu button without duplicating the space required on the DVD but you need to duplicate the timeline (like adding a Playlist) and in that timeline, simply remove the subtitles track. Then your menu buttons can be mapped accordingly and subtitles will be forced on or off without using the remote.

February 11, 2016 at 7:43 pm in reply to: Problem with closed captions – lines are missing frome my SCC filethe issue is likely not an Encore bug. More likely it is a caption problem. Captions generally need to be longer than a second by default – Encore is just following the rules. To avoid this, if each caption is 1 second, you’d need to combine 2 captions into one caption and make the length 2 seconds, using two lines or more for the text. It sounds like something like a cheap/free or even Youtube program “automatically” created this file. A professional caption person generally would never create a caption file with captions as short as 1 second — (I mean no disrepect in case you created them!).

February 9, 2016 at 6:49 pm in reply to: Problem with closed captions – lines are missing frome my SCC fileWe only had error message pop up on import saying something about a 3 frame blank and actually that was for subtitles not Caption – sorry! Could it be a DropFrame vs. Non-Drop? Do the missing captions overlap the minute marks consistently?

February 9, 2016 at 6:33 pm in reply to: Problem with closed captions – lines are missing frome my SCC fileSometimes Encore gives us trouble because the captions do not have a 3 frame blank between captions. The only other issue we have had is when we tried to use, interchangeably, 24 and 30 frame. We have not experienced any issues beyond looking at these 2 things.

On a Windows machine, when zoomed in, in Effect Mode, CTL+ALT turns mouse into hand and you can focus on the area you want.

January 27, 2016 at 10:49 am in reply to: Canon C300 AVID MC8 and AMA – plugins won’t installIn the past I have resolved the issue by not having the CONTENTS folder “buried too deep”. The folder above the CONTENTS folder, for me, needed to be closer to the root of the drive. Also there can be some naming convention of folders above the CONTENTS folder that causes this error.
