Are the other IO devices not working at all? (Matrox, Kona)?
Or are they just not fully tested and approved? -

If the market you make your living in in competes directly with people who could simple replace it with a flip cam and imovie, you need to learn and offer more.
I believe the basic shoot + edit packages are drying up.. it’s accessible and children are learning how to do these things in 3rd grade, if not sooner. Give it 7 years and that market will be a professional wasteland.
What if he needed motion graphics? 3d? color grade? HDCAM SR master? compositing?
There are still things that customers need specialists and professionals for, it’s our job to figure out what those things are.

DaVinci Resolve isn’t going to be selling like the iPad. (then again, maybe it will be at the Apple Store?)

In regards to 20-somethings seeming “cocky”, thinking that knowing all the programs means endless jobs, of course, they’ll find out they are among hundreds of thousands who think the same..
unfortunately, simply walking into a production/post house and “paying your dues” as was the case back in the day is not the case anymore… not only do you have to know it all, you have to be a top notch human, work for free, live on ramen, etc etc.
I’m personally envious of the old industry.. I cant think of a single person who is getting an “apprenticeship” right now.. they dont exists! Hell, the KIDS already KNOW most of it!
You have to admit, 20s are coming into the most competitive time in history.
Sure, in an industry where 50% of high school grads seem to be getting into the video industry, there is bound to be TONS of bad apples.. please.. do not work with them.. find the kids who will die to work in this industry. There are bound to be a few.

Just got a job, 5 layers, still images here and there. Sent to Color.. started grading.. done.. sent back.. give to client.
NO PREP.
I cant imagine having to put that into one layer for prep to Resolve in 2010.
If I could run Color on the same machine for simple jobs like that it would be an ideal situation.
Unfortunately Apple Color will apparently not run on a machine with 2 gfx cards installed. (Resolve will not work without 2 cards)
So.. to use Resolve on a show here and there requires uninstalling cards etc etc.

Why not just by the Linux software alone and get an HP or BOXX and skip the reseller all together?

It’s starting to look like porting Resolve to mac is an up hill battle..
How is Windows 7 looking these days?

I think more then a cpu speed bump the release of the GTX 480 will be even more exciting. 🙂
wonder if they’ll change the case design finally?
