My understanding of LUTs is primitive at best…
Isn’t it that LUTs are primarily used for film out work… however now you can work in REC 709 and apply an inverse LUT later..
what other uses does a LUT have in grading? (pre applied looks which will be removed anyway?)

doesn’t make sense to rush into getting a GTX 285 or 4800 right now when it looks like the GTX 480 is right around the corner…

Can Resolve for Mac input and output 2k/4k and R3D natively? (realtime or not)

Does the Resolve for Mac input and output 2k/4k (dpx, R3D) as Apple Color does? Will it read R3D natively?I agree, it’s all about the artist, I’m hoping this bridges that small iron/big iron gap.
And, one thing thats popular now is to have the editor do the online and grade for lower budget projects, and in smaller markets, where the directors want the cheapest quote..I imagine that would be why.

One thing Color cant do that DaVinci can… BAG CLIENTS.

I’m no hardware guy, running a 2.26, most recent build of the mac pro.
I’d like to use a GTX285 + GT120..you mentioned the 285 using 2 of 2 power connectors, what affect could this have, other then using more power/heat?

How does it run with a ATI 4870 + FX4800.
Would that work instead of a GT120?

Nothing peeves me more then “editors” who are motion graphic artists, colorists, graphic designers, web designers, and a whole lot more! (cheesy QVC voice).
Would Walter Murch run around claiming to do it all? No.. hes an Editor. He cuts stories together out of nothing, and has spent his entire life focusing on that specific craft. Good for him.
Often when I see the reels of editor/mograph/color/online/web/compressionist/dvd author/director/cinematographer/sound mixer.. it’s awful and it shows that they have focused on learning the tools and not the craft. But.. they will find a place in the broom closet of some low end post group.
So, choose your craft and find a foot in.
