They are probably paying you less because 300 people with flips will be putting the marching band on youtube anyway, which would explain why they have less to pay.

And these managers wouldn’t be wrong in doing so, right? Running a business is running a business, not a charity for out of work industry vets..

If task X can be achieved to todays standards using cheap young labor they’d only be screwing themselves by paying more then is necessary. Likewise, the vet is only screwing himself by doing a job that is below his skill level, right?

(aka, editorial is horribly over saturated)

If you are so successful and have all of the hot clients, screw HR’s and start your own company?
Editorial is a cluster$@#* goto job for everyone and anyone in the film world today.

There are absolutely no standards, because AE/FCP/MCR are so widely known. When hiring purely based on technical knowledge it becomes overwhelming. So I believe these HR’s start putting in random requirements to cut down on the stack of twenty million otherwise eligible applicants.

    It makes sense..

Editors have had suites set up in their basements doing blockbuster work for years now..

The tools are now there for colorists to start doing the same.

    viva la revolution!

October 8, 2010 at 2:27 am in reply to: What are your terms for payment?

    I had a job recently,
half up front, half upon finish.
    Done on a handshake.

    First check was fine,

    finished the job,

He cancelled the second check while overseas screening the finished film!! (and my bank charged me for his stopping payment)

Because he wanted to “change” a few things after screening the film.. now, because I mistakenly made the deal on a handshake, I feel I can do nothing but make his changes and hope he gives me the final payment without canceling the check he writes and running.

Im curious how someone else would handle this..

Seeing as the GTX285 for mac is nearly impossible to purchase, and its seems no new Cuda cards are coming to the mac..

anyone have a place to get flashed cards? Or instructions on how to do this?

Whenever I see a company that wants someone to use LiveType for anything, I get up and kindly walk away.

    True..

This is a 20 minute reel, 1920×1080 > 23.98 > PRORES422 + some h264 clips, random stills over 4k in resolution, which I’ve reimported at 1920×1080. (I’ve disabled the old ones in the timeline)
I’ve also disabled removed all filters.

Nothing else too strange in the project, I’ve never experienced this before.

I can’t seem to get any of the sequences in this project to export without the drives ejecting and giving me the “you’ve ejected the drives improperly” notice.
