We have two Octo Cores with 20 gig of RAM each and a Quad Core with 12 gigs of RAM. Bouncing back and forth I feel the Quad core is significantly slower on FCP renders and basic AE rendering. It’s a joy to work on the Octo core and many times we set up a render on the Quad and render on one of the Octo’s.
Surely over the three year life of a computer, $1000 is well worth the extra performance you will get.
A larger engine in a car is less important because you can only go the speed limit anyway. You WILL, however, use every last bit of processing power on any computer you buy.
$1000 over the three year life cycle of the Octo is 27 dollars a month. Get it. And load it up with RAM.

As for any bleeding during the burn, you have to make sure that ink is not printing on the inside plastic hub area. After a print take a kleenex and gently wipe that area to see if ink was applied there. If so, make a white circle in photoshop to knock out that area and try again.
Also if the ink is bleeding you might not actually be printing on inkjet media but Thermal…or the ink you are using is not standard. Never had an issue.

We have three 7-disc DVD towers (21 at a time) manual load. I have done 600 DVD runs. We also pair them up with three Bravo SE printers which have 20 disc capacity and you keep loading them up…no biggie.
I can begin printing if the label is done while authoring is still being finished. I almost always print before burn, then I let ’em rip.
I have not had any inconveniences with the manual load burners…goes pretty fast actually. We only burn DVD-R 8x media best quality inkjet Verbatim and burn at 4x speed. Haven’t had an error yet. The printers have been our little workhorses and are networked for anyone to print to.
We use Discus for our disc printing along with Photoshop.

Try making the sequence viewer at exactly 100% scale.
And although you say it is 30fps did you try dropping a clip into a new sequence had say yes to have the sequence conform to the clip? Then see what the sequence settings are.
Finally try making a 1080 sequence at 29.97 and see if that will solve the playback issue.

Also the actual frame rate for the 24 fps H264 footage is 23.976. It’s not 23.98 or 24. It is 23.976 so if you can choose that or make it part of a custom transcode use it.

What I do is in the Distort box under the motion tab simply enter the 1/2 width value of the 16:9 comp into the four Upper Left/right etc. You are essentially pulling the four corners over to lock to the corner of your 16:9 frame.

Another thing to try is to put your clip over a background and change the properties of the clip you want to key to “Screen” mode. This will filter out the black and leave luminance.
It’s worth trying depending on what background you want them over.

Also I think that the Quad is a single chip with four cores and the Octo is a dual-chip with four cores on each…big performance boost.
Also the 16 gigs of RAM alone will make a huge difference in overall everyday performance.
But only $500 more for both the Octo and the extra 8 gigs of RAM? Sounds a little good to be true. I don’t think you can even buy 8 gigs of Ram for the Octo for under $500.

What we have done is track invoices for projects and measure how much per finished minute we charged based on the length of the videos we delivered. We have found that we are pretty darn consistent depending on how the videos are constructed. We have three basic levels of per finished minute for editing and two basic levels for per finished minute of pure animation.
We don’t always use this to create an actual proposal, but we use them internally and with our best clients to throw a number out before the project. We are very close at estimating this way.
