Can you give us some idea on the number of total hours. We all charge a different rate, but if we knew the kind of hours it took, roto, compositing, graphics prep work, etc., it would help us determine if this kind of work would be viable for some of our clients, hours wise.

Seems we are always seeing smaller budgets, and we might not approach this kind of look if the hours weren’t there…I know this is broadcast, but for some of us corporate guys can you give us some idea of how long you spent on it? I have a guess, but that’s it.

Of course we all operate at different speeds too!

My opinion is that you will not gain significant speed with the new drives. They are all 7200 rpm and the bigger buffer comes into play when you are playing back large files, or when you are doing multiple things and there is a lot of traffic on the bus..the larger cache will be able to keep up a little better with the handshaking.

But major speed gains…no. Now if you were to stripe FOUR drives together, rather tan the two, you would see significant gains, which is why 4-8 drive SATA RAID setups are becoming pretty common with lots of product out there.

I’m just saying that the two apps are unique. I own both…I have more than one computer. I might be rendering a bunch of filters on a FCP project and want to start a DVDSP project on the other computer while the other one crunches.

Why can’t I do that without disconnecting the network?

How “legacy”did you go? Try saving out to Ilustrator 8.

You guys keep suggesting that you move an object from right to left, but this field test is more apparent with a smaller object with hard edges moving vertically. In a Frame rendered clip the resulting vertical motion will reveal the judder more apparently that if it was moving left to right. Likewise, in a field rendered clip of the same vertical motion will reveal the smoothness of the 60 fields.

So do your test with a small hard edged object falling vertically…

I usually add a Matte Choker and even a simple choker on top of that…apply sparingly. Then add the Spill Supressor from the keying selection.

I love the Dell Ultrasharp monitors and their 20 inch widescreen along with a 17″ 4:3 match perfectly vertically. We tried two 20″ widescreen side by side but it’s WAY too much horizontal mouse movement…it gets fatiguing. Once we put the 17″ 4:3 next to the 20″ widescreen it was a perfect match, so to speak.

The 20 inch widescreen sells for around $450 and I got the 17″ 4:3 for $220 a piece. So for under $700 I got a perfectly matched dual monitor setup. $1400 bought me two sets of these.

I personally love the Dell stand for these monitors…it is not cheap and is very easy to adjust. The 20″ widescreen can pivot horizontally for testing vertical plasma setups. They are a great value and many on this list have sung their praises.

    They get my vote.

I’m also an old Media 100 forum host, turned FCP. Actually, I used to run AVIDs like a pro, but it’s been a while…seems everyone around these parts (Madison, WI) are going FCP.
