  • If it’s a Mac laptop I would go with progressive 30p H.264. You also don’t specify how you will edit the material…is it on a Mac or a PC? More info on your workflow might help us make a stronger suggestion.

The Dells are a better value because they have a plethora of input and output connections….as well as PIP features and great setup menus. I have Dells on all our systems and even have the Dell 32 inch LCD HD TV.

Great value and haven’t let us down yet…

Is the input to the Waveform terminated correctly?

Only thing comes to the top of my mind…

In sequence viewer it is the third tab over and you should have “Image” selected. Sometimes I accidentally hit a key combination that makes that one Wireframe and I have the issue you were having.

No, that’s the one I think. Play with those….it is what I have found to cause your issue. One last thing is under View-External Video and be sure that All Frames is selected.

    Gotta be one of those….

In the original project go to the upper tabs on the Sequence viewer window. Somehow you have selected “Wireframe Only”. Change it to Image + Overlays and you will be good to go.

It is some keystroke that I hit every once in a while and it goes into that view mode….it shows a freeze frame but won’t view a playing sequence.

    Try it…

    September 8, 2007 at 4:16 pm in reply to: AE CS3 on a G5 non-Intel

Hmmm….that was our experience with AE7. Our expereience with CS3 has been fantastic. We have all G5 dual 2.7s. We are not running QT 7.2 yet and are running OS 10.4.9. I’m pretty sure we have 4 gigs of RAM on each machine.

We had lots of the problems reported here with our installs of AE7. We stuck with 6.5. But CS3 seemed to solve all those issues.

Maybe I should have another look!

And IMO if you are considering going to AE7 vs 6.5, I would stick with 6.5. However if you can, upgrade to CS3. We tried AE7, found it a little unreliable, moved into CS3 (AE8) and haven’t looked back. CS3 solved all the issues we had with AE7 and it is well integrated with the rest of the CS3 suite.

September 5, 2007 at 11:18 pm in reply to: Photo JPEG

We have somewhat abandoned Photo-JPEG for an entirely DVCPro50 workflow. We think the file sizes are manageable and the codec holds up to abuse (layers etc). If we are working in uncompressed 8 or 10 bit we stick to that codec in between.

Disk space has become so cheap it does not make sense to do as much transcoding as we might have done in the past. We also prefer the compression of DCT type codecs rather than the destructive Jpeg codecs. Although PhotoJPEG is a respectable codec, it can create color shifting when brought between apps.

Let us know if replacing the battery does it….I have the exact same model with the exact same problem. Our local Mac shop took a look but didn’t find the issue. If it’s the battery I’m going to chew them out!
