Are you talking about FCPs Timecode overlays in the Sequence viewer? There is a pulldown that allows you to choose Timecode overlays and you will see timecode of all active tracks.

Interesting….we had that issue come up too…have not found a solution, even deleting the prefs. Must be a hidden file somewhere…

My CS3 on a dual 2.7 G5 also won’t hide. No matter which approach I try….just won’t hide. We end up minimizing the timeline window to hide it in the dock. Hmmm, it’s beginning to sound like it might be related to how we have set up our windows because I have another G5 that hides it fine. Perhaps trying out configurations of the windows a bit more will reveal why it will not hide on my machine.

The most important factors in load time are bitrate, framerate and frame size. We scale down the frame size a bit so the encode will look better at lower bitrates. We only use 15 fps. We use mono audio instead of stereo. Have a look on our site in the portfolio section and see how you think the clips look!

Probably the best way is to dub the footage from the HD deck to an SD deck like digi beta, DVCAM or DVCPro50 etc. But if you have a finished piece then compressor can do the work for you, or drop the sequence into an SD sequence and let FCP do the render.

That’s a good question…..they also tout the features of the Pro version like batching, but it still isn’t available. I think they wrote a pretty clunky interfaced, but decent quality encoder for MPEG-2, took our $350, promised more stuff, then ran with the cash.
Not saying for sure, but it seems like they are not moving forward, but standing still.

And, Bob it is because a big, double-truck wide, glossy photo of a dual-stacked box with lots of lights and a ton of connectors turns our heads. Editors (well, many of us) are gear heads. A PCI card is not all that exciting…but the Motu looks like a modern, rockin piece of gear.

First, because of your issues. But second, because usually we also have to make a WMV file or other encode besides a DVD, and having a self contained clip of a final program is useful down the road if we have to make a quick DVCAM output etc. We just bring in the clip and off it goes.
Lots of very useful reasons to have either a self-contained clip or at least a ref clip.

We always export a self-contained or Ref clip to a hard drive first, then import that clip into compressor for encoding….have never done it any other way and have never had your issues.

I had our local Mac guys look at it and they also suspected the Power supply….however I bought one on ebay and it did not fix the problem….curious…
