October 2, 2005 at 9:45 am in reply to: Seems adobe have released everything BUT what we all need[Aanarav Sareen] “….. Complaining about a non-existant release with “unknown features” is not the smartest idea. And always, submit feature requests on Adobe’s sites. They do look into those carefully. I am not arguing, that there are some functions missing in Premiere Pro. But none of those are stopping me from doing any projects (yet) And if they are, I simply open up my Avid. Not a big deal atleast at this point. Keep in putting in the feature requests and keep your fingers crossed.”
Aanarav. I mean no disrespect, but you don’t get it.
1. I believe that this thread is voicing just some of the frustration that goes along with Adobe keeping us in the dark. I’ve never gotten an acknowledgement of any problem or interest from Adobe of my issues. The PP product manager that I met with at NAB 2005 was very receptive to my expressed needs, but he was gone from Adobe within a month of NAB 2005. I tried to follow up with calls to others at Adobe– no acknowledgement at all. It’s hard to have a lot of confidence that PP will meet my needs when I don’t know if anyone is really listening.
2. Your comment about just opening another edit application for a missing feature doesn’t take into consideration a number of things.
a. Workgroups. With workgroups you can’t just change back and forth. Today, I’ll edit on edit* tommorow PP, the next day AVID. The file and app incompatiblity is just too large an obstacle to overcome. That’s why standards like MXF and AAF offer hope for the future for your scenario of changing apps for features– and why these standards have been developed.
b. Video File reuse. In my situation, I am building a library of materials that can be used over and over again in digital format.
Right now, I have 75 hours of finished programs on an antequated(sp) non-standard motion JPEG format that can’t be used in Premiere.
I have learned from my mistakes. I have chosen, for the time being, Premiere. Adobe has said that Premiere is going to support IT standards for video integration. SMPTE and EBU have set standards for “wrapped” video files consisting of the DV family, some of the various flavors of MPEG along with non compress Digital formats both SD and HD.
c. Integration with IT functions like Digital Asset Management. You can design a DAM to work with AVID, but not Pemiere at this point. I need this functionality that integrates low rez proxies ( less that 3mb per second (long gop?))for having all your media searchable online as well as higher rez (DV 25 or greater)that can put on or taken of a Storage Area Network (SAN). The edit DAM has to be smart enough to know that low rez timelines that are created can be opened up with the hi rez stuff and all the work that has been done is ready for a more experience editor to take it to the next level.
3. The big question with PP going forward is,”What kind of Professional will the app be primarily designed for?” If it’s the social professionals or the one man band professionals, forget it. Nothing short of being a major league tool for untilization in Enterprise level IT integration and broadcast is acceptable IMHO.
Finally,PP 2.0 may be great. It’s just the anticipation is getting to me and I assume others. We need to vent and hopefully we will be pleasantly surprised.

Glad you chimed in. With NDA in mind can you tell us, should we “relax” in general or just about audio?

Becasue I can tell you first hand they are and the exodus will continue with each day that passes with zero word on a much needed upgrade.”
I agree with you 100%. For someone that is going after the “professional space”, they are getting killed by FCP. IMHO, FCP’s penetration into the same space as PP is one reason that Adobe isn’t releasing PP for MAC. I know, that maybe with the new operating system for MAC the port may be easier, but why give your competition a leg up?
If I didn’t have such a big investment in PC’s, I’d be in the FCP camp for sure. I can wait for maybe a month or two, but if something isn’t out by the end of the year, that’s substantially better than 1.5, I’ve got 4 stations that I will look for alternatives for.

September 19, 2005 at 12:02 pm in reply to: Speculation about PP 2.0’s clip and versioning organization[Aanarav Sareen] “If you have the Creative Suite, you will notice that all images can be opened from within the Bridge itself.”
It would be interesting if you digitized stuff via the bridge not the job. This could be a very powerful. Unfortunately, I think it will be hard for Adobe to get away from the job approach since most times it is the definition of the work.
The best that we can hope for would be some kind of simultaneous logging.

I hope it is earlier than that. I’m installing a 4 seat SAN in the next 10 days, so the sooner the better. Anything that improves sharing files among them as well as anything that makes digital asset management easier with low rez proxies would be of great benefit.
I don’t expect Adobe to come out with the asset management part of the equation. This would be a great supplemental plug- in application.

I was hoping that they would announce the release of 2.0, but as of 9 AM EDT, there’s no announcement from Adobe or on the IBC exhibitor press release site.
I have 4 systems ready to upgrade. I just wonder how much longer it will take to work out the bugs.
This is really starting to hurt Adobe in the marketplace. While I’m sure that 1.5 is selling, you have major defections to final cut pro and people sticking with AVID even though PP has a great architecture.
The longer it takes Adobe to get it right, the more market share they will lose to FCP and AVID because once you start using a software tool, you are reticent about giving it up to learn another— especially one that’s immature like 1.5 –in major need of basic feature and performance improvement.
Hey you guys from Adobe that monitor this site. Get it right soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please?????
(I did say please)
Respectfully:)

[Marc Bauwens] ” Ability to use Firewire or USB connected audio mix surfaces like the TASCAM or the Mackie DAW desks.
Beats the hell out of trying to mix witha mouse and would avoid having to go to an other app for
simple or even complex audio mixdown jobs. That’s definitely goes up very high on my overall list.

Rayk,
It is clear as day. Good Choice. Thanks for playing.

Karl,
Thanks for playing.
It’s tough for just two- hopefully the two listed first are the most important.
