April 20, 2013 at 6:16 am in reply to: so, what did you think of GB Labs Space at NAB 2013 ?I ran into a GB labs rep in an elevator in my hotel. Long story short, I’m looking for shared storage and was sure I’d be going with a SAN.
I have 3 active edit seats (PrPro) and an art and sound station-all mostly using 35mbit/s data streams. Most times not more than 2-4 streams per edit station. I anticipate doubling those numbers in the next 2 years.
So I looked at Facilis, Tiger’s Tbox, and Dynamic Drive Pool as well as GB Labs. Now, I await more data. They were selling GB Labs on total cost of ownership when compared to a SAN. One reseller prefers Facilis in their installs. Tiger was touting how they have been dealing with everyone else’s hardware, so they know what all the problems are. Ddp value proposition was a cost- simplicity thing. ID love some feedback from actual price-performance observations.

forgot to include for PP 5.5

Jeff,
Thanks for your response about 10 bit support in 5.5.
It looks like Panasonic has been working with Adobe on integration since CS4. Since then, has there been any other issues? Do you know if there are any current issues with p2 and PP5.5?
I’m specifically interested in anything related to corruption of files during editing or archiving. Also, does the file structure of the p2 format- separate video, audio, and metadata files- cause any problems?

Yes we are having the same problem. I am going to create a new post since this is a couple of years old.
PP3.0 –Problem with Project Manager Trim Software
Milner-Fenwick has a problem that occurs when a Premiere Pro 3.0 project is trimmed using the project manager software. It occurs mostly with non-captured files- with audio files such as narration, music, and sfx (they can be Cd 44.1 files and mono and stereo tracks). Sometimes, it happens with graphics files.
This problem occurs about half the time the project manger software is used. In an affected project, there may be any where from 2 to 25 damaged files. The error message that we get in the trimmed project is “unsupported file formats”.
When we open the non-importable audio files in another application like Sound Forge, they are identified as Raw PCM files. These Raw PCM files frequently have errors– like random noises. The ones that don’t have errors can be saved as a wav file and then it can be re-linked and used.
It isn’t happening on more than one computer. These computers all have dual 32 bit Xeon processors and at least 3 Gigs of memory.

Eric,
Thanks for responding. I’m still following up issues you responded to previously.
More qeustions. How likely is it that you will run out of memory with a very large complex Pp project that utilizes timelines from many pre-exiting projects?
If you do run out of RAM, does it go to the swap drive? If so, what effect does that have on performance? Could this choke the system?

Tim,
sorry for delaying getting back to you. I had to gather some info.
There is enough space on the destination drive. The app is crashing and gives us a messages saying something like “try and save it and do it again”.Before the message the condensed project starts writes files for hours, but it never gets to the project file. I’m having this problem on a half a dozen drives or more.
Also, when we export just the project file, the project doesn’t open.
Is there someone that I can send a drive to try tourble shoot this?

Thanks for your response
I’ve been away from PP for awhile, so please excuse the elementary level of the following questions. Is it safe to assume that the project and the video files are back up on to the same drive?
Does the project manager make temporary files before it write the condensed files on to the drive? If so, where do these temporary files reside during the condense?
Is it same to assume that you can assign a different drive from the existing project drive or media drives to copy the files on to?
If there is enough space, do you know of any other reasons why a condense would fail?
Thanks,

Peter,
[Peter Corbett] “I believe that many PPro/Vista users with problems have hardware/driver issues with the OS and/or have underpowered systems.”
What system would you consider a minimum to use with Vista 64 and PP CS3- including video card, memory, processor?
