Should only capture using HDV capture preset using the M15U deck – not HDV Pro RES. Also be sure deck is set for HDV not DV down convert. Use Sony Firewire control protocol. And if all that fails, use Capture NOW and abandon batch capture.

Yes. But Apple markets itself as being the easiest to use and the most ubiquitously accessible of all hardware and software companies out there. This was a miscue on their part. Saying that I should be grateful for any capability at all is just not real world and does not conform to their promise. We want software programs that work well without a lot of hassle. Making a software program that does not play with every other program in their repertoire is not acceptable to us as consumers when they expressly market their product on this basis!.

OK.OK. I heartily apologize for my slam on Apple for not making the output file from Quicktime’s screen record feature compatible with FCP. I take complete responsibility for my own personal failures in this regard and I propose to never let this happen again in this life or the next.

YEP the Western Digital drives absolutely suck for editing anything. Sometimes they will mount on booting up and sometimes they just sit there. I have two of them here and we used them for about 4 days before becoming so frustrated that we gave up. If you are looking for a firewire drive that is fairly7 economical we have had great luck with Maxtor One Touch Plus4. Less than $150 at Fry’s for a Terabyte.

Gee…Turner Broadcasting is standardizing around Final Cut. Just about all they do is long form. If it works there it should work anywhere.

Thanks a million. Working on it now. I share your feelings about iMovie. It looks like it will take iMovie around an hour to export a 3 minute movie. And I’m using an 8 core machine with 22 Gb of memory.
