I wish I could tell you what I did to resolve the problem but after a week of this happening it simply stopped doing that. I did notice that if I re-booted it would eliminate the problem at least for awhile. If only it were as easy to fix my automobile. I could just get out and get back in again.

I did a search of “Decklink Kona” and got something that was not what you referred to. Is there another way to find that thread?

I’VE HAD SIMILAR EXPERIENCE. But I’ve also owned BlackMagic Designs products and their customer service is equally reliable and responsive. The Kona is about twice as expensive. I was just thinking that there had to be more that the Kona had over the Decklink Studio.

  • I would make the change and lay it off again. For one thing you will have a complete program that you can store as a part of your NLE system. Start the process and go to lunch. A long lunch.

Another workaround is a simple one if you have two Tape decks. Lay the segment you want on another tape. Then use the linear editor built into the Tape machine to edit the scene into your existing segment. Should work flawlessly although it is an admittedly inelegant solution. Should only take a few minutes.

On that machine I think you have to use RS-422 to control the deck. NOT Firewire – if you are going to capture through the KONA3 card. Are you trying to capture HD-SDI or are you trying to capture using component? The capture preset in FCP must also be compatible with the connection that you are using with the Kona Card. But you probably have checked all that by now.

Need more info. Was the footage shot with the camera on its side (rotated 90 degrees)? I’ve done this before with a resolution of 480 x 3559. To do this we used a Motion JPEG sequence. But you can also specify 1080 x 1920 just as easily. The motion JPEG sequence should allow you to specify whatever resolution you need. If you shot it with camera in a 90 degree rotation originally, you will be able to rotate that footage and preserve most of your resolution. If you shot it in a traditional orientation then you will have to do a center extraction and you will have to blow up the footage to 1920 vertically. This will result in a loss of about half the resolution. Good luck.

Do you happen to have a BlackMagic card installed?
