The JL cooper MCS series gives a nice large TC display as well.

Or some really desperate indie filmakers did the deed.

Seriously though – this is a pretty crazy story. I hope they nail whoever did it.

  • Since it’s not UB- it won’ t see the Kona 3.

AT least I can still see AE output via firewire.

As far as the G5 Quad vs. Intel – I had to set up another edit suite

and moved my G5/Kona 3 with Final Touch to a prod co
so I bought the Mac Pro for my home suite.

Using a single app- like FCP or just AE 7 it’s fine.

When I have multiple apps open – AE, FCP a Safari, and mayne one or two others open,
after a while it get incredibly sluggish – especially switching apps.

My quad G5 never had this problem- though I have 4.5 gigs ram in the G5 and only
3 in the Mac Pro. Maybe I need more, but it’s so $$$.

hopefully it will support the new 24P sony HD camera – the link only mentions 1080i.

Thanks for the quick reply – at least I know it’s not the Kona drivers.

I did reinstall AE with no luck.

    Thanks

Damn – I knew this woul dbe hell when the intel based desktops were released, which is why I bought the Quad G5 as soon as it came out, and am still happy with that choice.

However, I have to build up a second edit suite, and just got the Mac Pro in yesterday to
attach an Aja IO to it. I guess I’ll know soon how that goes, but I was planning to order an additional 2 gigs of ram since it only came with 1, but I guess I’ll have to pull the stock ram out and just go with 2.

in about 10 weeks when the second edit job ends- I may sell one of the macs – the question is – which to sell – the Quad G5 or the Mac Pro?

August 29, 2006 at 3:50 am in reply to: Dell 24-inch Display as an HD Monitor?

The Samsung 242T supposedly is a better monitor than the Dell (according to reviews)

It’s about the same price- or at most $100 more, and has the same inputs, etc.

I am just about to buy one as a main Mac monitor for a second edit suite I am about to set up, and eventually will get to test it
    as a program monitor.

My other really sweet purchase for this new temporary suite is he Genelec 8020 powered speakers. Man these sound nice – are tiny and image like hell.
perfect for a serious online edit suite especially if you add the Genelec subwoofer.

  • I have found that FCP’s broadcast safe will take care of luma, but doesn’t seem to clamp chroma values to go illegal. (even setting conservative values)

    ANyone else found this?

  • wow – that is exciting that Bob will be joining us.

  • thanks for the reply Walter.

I captured at 23.98. ANy thoughts on the gamma shift?
