Another aspect of the quest for best quality – is FCP still internally only 8 bit?

no HDSDI card is needed for the 14L5 or 20L5 – just component analog HD in – and most edit systems today provide that – the HVX200 does as well

forget both of them – get the pvm14L5 – that’s the best available monitor for the HVX.

The other 2 monitors listed are SD not HD. the 20M4U is an old monitor and you have no idea how many hours are on the tube – I sold mine for a 20L5.

the 20L5’s are out of production – get the 14L5 while it’s still available at B&H or you will be kicking yourself.

  • Hi Walter,

That’s is pretty shocking to hear about FT and DVCproHD codec. That’s what I was planning to do with it since I have the HVX200.

Do they anticipate they can fix it?

Have you played around with Color Finesse? I haven’t used the latest version, but I seem to remember it working really well, and of course no XML needed.

  • Uncompressed –

You are obviously biased towards uncompressed codecs since that is your family name…. Seriously though have you had any trouble with XML import/exports from FCP- to FT back to FCP? I have done test with it but not a feature length project. I hear the laterst version of FT with FCP 5.1 handles XML alot better.

David – The sheer codec – even though it doesn;t have RT – Once I render to that codec- can it play out Kona 3 with no issues? I have played with the Pixlet codec and found to compress really well.

    Thanks

  • Anything made in March 2005 is definitley the /1 model.

The only addition to the /1 model of the 20 and 14 was ability to play 24psf, but then
I read on a forum it was only able to do this through HDsdi in.

I wish I had known that before I sold my second 20L5 with extra component input board for only $1750!!!

Now I find out they are going for like $4000 on ebay since you can’t find them anywhere.

At least I have one 20L5/1 as my main edit monitor, and I recently picked up a brand new

14L5/1 for $1000 !!!! What luck – I needed a good on set monitor for my HVX200 that we could light off

of, and no LCD will suite that purpose. I love this series of monitor.

  • Thanks Mark- I finnaly figured it before seeing your post.

I got stuck in the same aging menu. I was told it would go off after an hour.

I think I kept hitting different inputs and finally it cancelled.
