Hey this could be the answer! Is it able to split one long file that has already been down loaded or do I need to capture it through the app?

Thanks Jeff, Do you find that Encore does a good job with auto compression for movies pushing the 90 minute mark or do you figure the bit rate and set it manually?

March 7, 2009 at 7:17 pm in reply to: What is the reasoning behind not playing the audio?Premier solved this issue long ago by “saving” the render file to allow real time playback with the audio. You can accurately scroll back and forth frame by frame to see where you need to make adjustments. Then hit the enter button to re-render any section you changed without re-rendering the entire comp. Its simple and it works great. I am just wondering why AE can’t do the same thing instead of having to RAM preview each time you want to see it play in real time.
Its totally possible that I’m not grasping the whole picture, but I guess being totally new to AE I don’t have any pre-conceived notions about how it has always been done in the past. Actually I was hoping Adobe would have streamlined their various applications to be more similar in form and function to allow users coming from one app to more easily step into any of the other Adobe programs.
What a marketing point that would be.

Yeah, I thought of that… I could probably also number the clip in the scene or Shot column as well to get it to display in a specific order. It just seems like a totally unnecessary step in the logging process, especially since it was never a problem before.
Thanks, Rex -
Thanks Ann but as far as I can tell there is no option to arrange the clips in the order they were captured. Premier does not assign them a “created” date and time so that feature is only available for titles and other things created in the program.

Thanks guys! That cleared up a lot of questions, though I admit it may have stirred up a couple more. I freelance edit for a weekly Cable series. Though, admittedly on a small budget, we manage to turn out some nice pieces.
It seems that if I make the switch I’ll have to change my work flow a bit as well as some of the programs I am already familiar with. I’ll definitely have to do some more digging.
The compatibility issues with my current work flow is disappointing but I’m sure there are other benefits that FCP offers that Premier does not. Until I can set down and do a side by side comparison, as you suggested, it will be hard to make an informed decision.
I know FCP users are a fiercely loyal group. That wouldn’t be the case if they didn’t honestly like the program.
Thanks for the info!

July 22, 2008 at 6:09 pm in reply to: What tape format does your Broadcaster require? Its going to be network specific. We’ve delivered to three different networks and each required a different format with a different set of video specs. If you plan to submit to a particular station I would recommend giving them a call to see which format they prefer.

Thanks Nelson, I had read that the MAC version would only open the current CS3 version but wasn’t aware of the capture problem. I also read that the Mac version did not import AVI files? If this is true, how does that effect your current work flow of capturing on the PC and transferring the folder to the Mac?

Good info, Thanks!

Ok “fry” may have been a little strong. Basically the deck was only receiving black and white, which means one side of the S Video cable was open. I had just rerouted some electrical cables and apparently the movement finished off the wire. I put on a new cable and the feed is color again but records the video with the flicker in it. I am feeding the Beta deck via a “new” shielded Video S cable from the DV deck. The decks are not synched. Black reference from a sigma generator. This set up has worked seamlessly for over a year until the cable issue. Hit play on one and record on the other, pretty simple. I also just found out my remote control unit doesn’t control the deck anymore. The repair tech told me to clean everything again but it made no difference. I’m thinking its time to ship it in.
